Brothers (Apple TV)
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have been best friends for years. They’ve made movies and TV shows together, but this might be their most personal project yet. In “Brothers,” the two play alternate versions of themselves after they learn they might be brothers. The moment sparks some identity crisis and plenty of comedy.
The Love Hypotheses (Prime Video)
Based on the best-selling romance novel, “The Love Hypotheses” follows a fake dating arrangement between a PhD student and her intimidating professor. Like any good romance, they end up falling in love.
American Horror Story (FX)
“American Horror Story” is celebrating its 13th season with an Avengers-like reunion, featuring the return of some of its formative characters played by Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, and much more.
Survivor (Paramount+)
“Survivor” is back for its 51st season, with host Jeff Probst bringing new tricks for a group of contestants stranded in Fiji and competing for a million-dollar prize.
Backrooms (HBO Max)
After becoming an unexpected box office hit, “Backrooms” is now on streaming. The low-budget horror movie follows the manager of a furniture store and the obsession he develops with the liminal place in the shop’s basement.
Toy Story 5 (Disney+)
“Toy Story” is still going. The fifth entry in the decades-spanning saga shows that the franchise still has the juice. It follows our beloved toys as they cope with the arrival of a new element in their household: a smart tablet called a Lilypad.
The MTV Video Music Awards (Paramount+)
Lastly, the MTV Video Music Awards are this Sunday, and this year’s show will feature a performance from Madonna, her first on the VMAs stage in 23 years. Her last one? Alongside Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears, in one of the most infamous performances of all time. Snoop Dogg will be hosting.
