For an actor, what’s better than winning an Oscar? Having one already waiting at home, courtesy of your spouse. Being recognised by the Academy Awards is something every actor dreams of, so sharing that experience with your spouse makes for double the fun.
We’ve rounded up some of the lovebirds, past and present, who share that all-important Hollywood award in common. In other words, cinema’s most intimidating dinner party.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have been married for over a quarter of a century and share two children, Dylan and Carys, together. But there’s a third child in their marriage who goes by the name of Oscar.
Michael won his first Academy Award in 1976 as producer on One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and took home the Best Actor award in 1988 for his role in Wall Street. Catherine won Best Supporting Actress in 2003 at the 75th Academy Awards for her role in murder musical Chicago.

Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh were the definition of a Hollywood ‘it’ couple for the duration of their 20-year marriage. Olivier won big at the 1949 Academy Awards, awarded Best Actor for the leading role in 1948’s Hamlet and accepting the movie’s award for Best Picture.
He received an honorary award in 1947 for bringing Henry V to the big screen and in 1979 for his career achievements. His wife of two decades Vivien Leigh won Best Actress in 1940 and 1952 for her roles in Gone with the Wind (1939) and A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) respectively.

Javier Bardem met his now-wife Penélope Cruz in 1992 on the set of Spanish film Jamón Jamón and reconnected 15 years later while filming Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Since then, they’ve been a Hollywood favourite and secretly tied the knot back in 2010.
In 2009, Penélope won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) while husband Javier won an Oscar the year prior for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for acclaimed Coen Brothers neo-western No Country for Old Men. Both are the only Spanish-born actors to be awarded the prize.

Kristen Anderson-Lopez and husband Robert might not be as familiar to you as others on our list but you’ll certainly have heard their 2014 Oscar winning original song ‘Let It Go’. Just four years later, they won again in the same category for Coco’s ‘Remember Me’.
They praised their daughters in their 2014 speech, with Kristen saying: “Katie and Annie, this song is inspired by our love for you and the hope that you never let fear or shame keep you from celebrating the unique people that you are.”

The Butch Cassidy star was nominated a total of 12 times and won, Best Actor for The Color of Money, award an Honorary Oscar in 1986 as well as the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1994.
Paul Newman married fellow actor Joanne Woodward in 1958 which proved to be a lucky charm for the actress. Joanne was nominated three times for an Academy Award and ensured 1958 was a busy year, aside from her marriage to Newman: the actress won the award for Best Actress for her work in The Three Faces of Eve.

Of course, no list of coupled-up Oscar winners would be complete without ‘Brangelina’ themselves. Angelina won a Best Supporting Actress award in 2000 for Girl, Interrupted and was awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 2014.
Her ex-husband Brad is a two-time Oscar winner, taking home an Academy Award in 2014, the year they married, for his role as producer in 12 Years a Slave which won best picture. He celebrated a second win in 2020 for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in which he played Clint Booth.

Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli
Judy Garland will forever be known as gingham-frocked Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz and her work earned her an honorary juvenile Oscar at just 17. Her husband Vincente Minnelli won an Academy Award for his work behind the camera on Gigi in 1958.
Their daughter Liza Minnelli is also an Oscar winner and first winner whose parents were both Oscar nominees to claim the award in 1972 for her role in Cabaret.
