Coachella is known for its surprise moments – and this year, ’80s rocker David Lee Roth from Van Halen delivered one of the biggest.
The 80s rock icon, 71, made an unexpected appearance during Teddy Swims’ set, sending the crowd into a frenzy as he took to the stage for a nostalgic performance of Van Halen’s classic hit ‘Jump’.
From the outset, it was clear Teddy had planned something special. His stage was transformed into a stylised apartment set, complete with a bedroom, living room and even a front door – which quickly became the show’s signature feature.
Just three songs in, a doorbell rang out across the desert, prompting the first of several surprise guests. Joe Jonas emerged to join Teddy for a performance of the Jonas Brothers’ ballad ‘When You Look Me in the Eyes’, setting the tone for a set packed with unexpected moments.
As the performance continued, the doorbell became a cue for escalating excitement. Later in the set, Vanessa Carlton stepped out to perform her beloved hit ‘A Thousand Miles’, with the crowd instantly lighting up as fans sang along and captured the moment on their phones.
But it was the final reveal that truly stole the show.
When the doorbell rang for the last time, David Lee Roth stepped through, flashing his trademark grin and instantly commanding the stage. Dressed in a leather vest and skintight trousers, the legendary frontman looked every bit the rock star as he joined Teddy for a high-energy rendition of the Van Halen hit ‘Jump’.
The pair delivered a playful and slightly imperfect performance, at one point missing their cue and laughing it off – a moment that only added to the charm. As the song built to its iconic crescendo, David made his way down the catwalk into the crowd, where thousands of fans sang along and pumped their fists to the timeless anthem.
Following the standout moment, Teddy closed his set with his hit ‘Lose Control’, complete with pyrotechnics and a dramatic exit on a custom bike – capping off an epic performance.
But for many in the crowd, it was David’s surprise return to the spotlight that defined the night – a rare and unforgettable appearance from a true rock legend.
