A 25-year journey of love, family, and humor

With a quarter-century of marriage just around the corner, Catherine Zeta-Jones is taking a moment to celebrate what truly matters. At the ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 premiere in London, the actress, 55, reflected on her upcoming 25th wedding anniversary with husband Michael Douglas, 80.

 “And they said it’d never last!” she joked to Entertainment Tonight, marking the milestone with her signature humor. She was clear about what she considers their most meaningful achievement. “I think that what we’ve accomplished, and I think both of us will say the same, I’m not speaking just for myself, is our children are truly wonderful,” she shared. 

The couple are parents to Dylan, 24, and Carys, 22. Douglas also has a son, Cameron, 46, from a previous marriage. The actress continued, “The joy they bring us, and now they’ve flown the nest, the joy that we have together.”

The two actors first met back in 1998 at the Deauville Film Festival. After Douglas saw Zeta-Jones in ‘The Mask of Zorro,’ he asked his publicist to introduce them, and the rest is history. They got engaged in December 1999 and married on November 18, 2000.

This year, she has been keeping busy filming Season 3 of ‘Wednesday,’ where she plays Morticia Addams, but she says Douglas has been “so supportive.” Despite their demanding schedules, she says they’re planning to mark their anniversary in a special way. “I think we’re going to be doing a party around the holidays,” she said.

The star once told The Wall Street Journal that it’s their foundation of “love and respect” that keeps the marriage strong. “We respect each other’s space, and our humor is just long-lasting,” she said in 2021. “We’ve never, ever lost our sense of humor, and we enjoy each other’s company.”

She acknowledged their 25-year age difference, saying, “My husband is 25 years older than me; that’s not a secret. With any relationship, it wouldn’t be normal if there weren’t any ups and downs. The constant is love and respect.”
