Zendaya is sharing some of her relationship red flags. The 29-year-old actress is currently promoting her film “The Drama,” starring herself and Robert Pattinson, as an engaged couple going through a tumultuous wedding preparation. In a new interview, she opened up about the things she considers red flags, shedding some light on her dynamic with Tom Holland and the things that she treasures in a partner.
Zendaya and Pattinson chatted for Interview Magazine, discussing their friendship and the fact that they recently worked on three movies together. She kicked off the questions by asking Pattinson about red flags that he finds engaging in a partner. She then said, “As I’ve matured, I think a red flag is a red flag, you feel me?”
Zendaya shared one of her work pet peeves, which helps her determine whether she likes a person or not. “One that works for us at work is how people treat their crews,” she said.
“I admire people who are kind to everyone, not just the actors, directors, or producers. A very telling thing is how a crew feels about a particular actor, because they get to see how people are when the cameras are not rolling.”
Her dog also came up. “If someone looked at your dog in a funny way, is that a red flag?” asked Pattinson.
“I would get into a fight over my dog, for sure,” said Zendaya.
The two also talked about first impressions and getting to know people and discover new things about them with time. “Yes and no? People are layered and complex and they make mistakes,” she said. “There are cultural differences. But there are also things that are just kind of, ‘Well, that’s rude. That’s mean.’ And there’s also the opposite. You can know someone for a long time and they can change, or you get to know them on a deeper level and you’re like, ‘Whoa. I didn’t see that side of you.'”
Tom Holland’s calming on set presence
In a recent interview with Mirror, Zendaya made it clear that she values Tom Holland’s behavior on set.
“On set he has this huge calming presence that not only puts me at ease but also everybody he works with,” she said.
Zendaya also discussed their dynamic and how they try to find balance between their public and private lives and their home base of Los Angeles and London. “Neither of us want to hide and not live our lives and do normal things like go out for dinner, but at the same time we want to protect our privacy,” she said.
“You have to accept that to a degree some aspects of your privacy are going to be out of your control. But the parts that are in our control, we fiercely protect.”
