Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently in Jordan, on a humanitarian trip, attending various events and linking with people who are supporting various causes close to the Sussexes’ hearts. According to new reports, the pair didn’t meet up with the King and Crown Prince of Jordan.

As reported by The Daily Mail, despite the Sussexes spending some days in Amman, where the Royal Family is based, there are no plans for a meeting.

“There is no meeting scheduled between the Duke and Duchess [of Sussex] and the Jordanian Royal Family,” said a source in Jordan to the outlet.

Despite not meeting with the most prominent figures of the royal family, Harry and Meghan did meet members of the family. Our sister website, HELLO!, confirmed that the pair met with Princess Basma bint Talal, the aunt of Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and her daughter, Farah Daghistani.

The meeting took place on Thursday, February 26, at the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development, a non-profit designed to improve the lives of poor citizens of Jordan. Princess Basma has been the chairperson of the organization since 1977, with it being one of the longest projects she’s been involved with.

The UK and Jordan royals have a bond that dates back years. “Our historic ties and friendship are played out in the lives of thousands of people who consider both countries home,” said Prince William during a solo visit to Jordan in 2018.

In the following years, Prince William and Kate Middleton have attended important events like the wedding of Hussein and Princess Rajwa, and on state visits. In the case of Kate, she lived in Jordan with her family for a couple of years when she was a baby, resulting in a close bond with the country.

More details about the Sussexes’ trip to Jordan

Prince Harry and Meghan’s trip began on Wednesday and was devised to learn about the humanitarian efforts that exist to support Palestinian and Syrian refugees in Jordan. The couple was invited on the trip by Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO).

That day, they visited the Jordan Country Office of World Central Kitchen, founded by the Spanish chef Jose Andres, who has previously collaborated with Markle.

“I consider them friends,” said Jose Andres of the Sussexes to PEOPLE. “I know they are in the spotlight — not just in America, but in Britain — and what I can tell you from what I know is that they don’t have to, but they decide to do it.”
