Amber Heard is ready to make an acting comeback. The American actress, who’s been living in Madrid for the past couple of years, announced she’s starring in a theater production spearheaded by the Tony Award-nominated writer Jeremy O. Harris.

Heard presented a film at the Taormina Film Festival in 2023 and has taken a step back from acting

In a post shared on Instagram, Heard shared a selfie alongside Harris, with both of them making faces for the camera. Heard is seen with her hair styled long and straight, wearing a white blouse. The play is called “Spirit of the People” and is one of the most anticipated theater productions of the year.

Other actors and crew members can be seen in the background, sitting on the floor and rehearsing their lines.

“In my theater era x,” she captioned the post, tagging O’Harris.

This marks Heard’s most notable role in years. In 2023, she premiered her film “In The Fire” at the Taormina Film Festival in Italy. Before that, she starred in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”

More details about the play

“Spirit of the People” will premiere at the MainStage at Williamstone Theater Festival, which kicks off in New York this July 17th. The play is led by Katina Medina Mora and is rounded out by a cast that includes Heard, Brandon Flynn, Tonatiuh, Leo Mehiel, and more.

The play follows Harris’ hit production “Slave Play.” In February of this year, Harris previewed the play at the Guggenheim Museum, revealing that the name is a reference to Mezcal, the Mexican spirit. While plot details have yet to be revealed, the show “confronts uncomfortable truths about land and what it means to destroy it.”

In an interview with Variety, Harris said the play was a challenge to write on multiple levels. “The play is half in Spanish, and I don’t speak Spanish. The play has a significant level of prose within it. I’m not a prose writer. I’m trying a lot of different things.”
