Amy Schumer Says She Hit “Rock Bottom” After Chris Fischer Split

Amy Schumer spoke candidly about hitting “rock bottom” after confirming her split from chef Chris Fischer. The I Feel Pretty actress, who recently announced she and her husband were getting a divorce after seven years of marriage, shared her reflections while celebrating the last night of Hanukkah with Israeli activist Noa Tishby.

Schumer, 44, who married Fischer, 45, in February 2018 and welcomed their son Gene the following year, said in a video posted to Instagram last Sunday night (December 21, 2025) that “when things are the absolute worst, is when my family is the funniest.” She continued, “Just when we hit rock bottom is when we can laugh the hardest. And I think that’s not unique to me. I think that’s a Jewish characteristic. I love Hanukkah. I was always really excited about it. Every time we light the candles, I feel like we’ve won. Jewish pride is the only way to fight against antisemitism.”

Earlier that evening, Schumer shared an empowering quote to her Instagram Story about the “marriage of friends”. She wrote, “My life is filled with the souls of women I love. The ones who make my belly ache from laughter, the ones who catch my tears. Who show up on my doorstep to celebrate and grieve, who stand up for me when I put myself down. If you have these women, remember: the soulmate is a wonderful thought, but look how beautiful these love stories are. Look how they make you full.”

Earlier this month, the Trainwreck star confirmed her amicable split, writing on December 12, 2025, “Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son.”

Weeks prior to her announcement, Schumer fueled speculation by appearing without her wedding ring and showing off dramatic weight loss in a social media post. The comedian, who was diagnosed with Cushing Syndrome in 2024, a hormonal condition that causes elevated cortisol levels, addressed rumors that her weight loss was linked to the split.

She told E! News, “I didn’t lose 30 lbs, I lost 50. Not to look hot, which does feel fun and temporary. I did it to survive. I had a disease that makes your face extremely puffy and can kill you, but the internet caught it, and that disease has cleared. Sorry for whatever feeling it’s giving you that I lost weight. I’ve had plastic surgery over the years, and I use Mounjaro.”
