Brad Pitt‘s youngest daughter Vivienne is moving ahead with her decision to drop her father’s last name.
The 18-year-old has completed one of the state of California’s required hurdles, publishing notice of her petition in the Los Angeles Daily Journal once a week for four consecutive weeks, TMZ reports.
The teen ran her notice from July 24 to August 14; the notice aims to prevent fraudulent name changes or debt evasion, and calls for anyone opposing the change to submit a written opposition before the final hearing.
Vivienne is requesting to legally change her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. Her final hearing will take place on November 2, 2026, and will see a judge make the final decision.
Brad and Angelina adopted three children and welcomed three biologically during their 12-year relationship; they fell in love on the set of Mr & Mrs Smith in 2004, and tied the knot in 2014.
Angelina filed for divorce in 2016 after alleging physical and verbal abuse of her and their children while on an international flight.
Brad has always denied the allegations and an FBI enquiry was closed.
Their divorce was legalized in 2019, but the relationship remains acrimonious, with ongoing legal filings over Château Miraval—the 1,200-acre French estate and vineyard where they tied the knot.
Alienation from Brad
Sources close to Brad have long maintained that he believes there was a concerted effort to “alienate” the children from him, with one close friend telling HELLO! earlier in 2026 that those efforts had been “incredibly effective but also incredibly upsetting,” and had “made it hard for Brad to move forward” with his life.
Legal changes
Vivienne is the fourth of their six children to take legal steps.
Maddox, 24, filed in May 2026, and Zahara, 21, filed in June 2026. Both have completed their notice of petitions and are expected to have their hearings in September.
Shiloh, 20, legally removed “Pitt” from her surname after turning 18 in 2024, with her lawyer calling it “an independent and significant decision following painful events.”
Vivienne, Zahara and Maddox had already dropped the name Pitt for public and professional appearances.
Vivienne was listed as “Vivienne Jolie” in the 2024 playbill for the Broadway show The Outsiders, on which she was an assistant, and when Zahara graduated from Spelman College on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the name “Zahara Marley Jolie” was called out as she accepted her diploma.
Maddox, who works as an assistant director, was credited as “Maddox Jolie-Pitt” in the credits for the 2024 film Maria, but had dropped Pitt by February 2026, when he was listed as “Maddox Jolie” in the credits of the film, Couture.
Remaining Jolie-Pitt children
Pax, 22, remains the only child of Angelina’s and Brad’s to have made no public overture regarding his last name.
Knox, 18, Vivienne’s twin, graduated from Fusion Academy in Los Angeles, where he competes as a Muay Thai fighter, in 2026, and was called “Knox Jolie” at the ceremony. He has made no legal decisions yet regarding his name.
