Anya Taylor-Joy has the perfect movie idea. While promoting “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” Taylor-Joy and Jack Black were discussing her Latin heritage, with her proposing the perfect movie idea that they could work on: “Nacho Libre 2,” the sequel to the original, following Black as a friar who moonlights as a luchador.
Taylor-Joy and Black were speaking to the host of “Despierta America,” where they discussed Taylor-Joy’s heritage and their new film, in which she plays Princess Peach.
At one point in the conversation, Taylor-Joy pitched the idea of starring in “Nacho Libre 2” with Black. “You could be my daughter,” agreed Black, excited.
“Hell yeah. I would love that,” said Taylor-Joy.
The two also discussed more details about Black’s character in the Super Mario movies, Bowser, and how he would act if he were Latino. “He’d be more romantic. A little more spicy. Un poquito más caliente,” said Taylor-Joy. Black brought the topic back to Nacho Libre. “Bowser would be good as a luchador.”
“You just want to fight. You just want to put on costumes and fight,” said Taylor-Joy with a laugh.
Taylor-Joy’s relatable Latina struggles
Taylor-Joy has a very interesting background. Born in Miami to English parents but raised in Argentina, the actress has often discussed how important her childhood was and how much she values her Latin roots.
“When I was younger, I didn’t fit in anywhere. I was too English to be Argentine, too Argentine to be English, too American to be anything,” she said in an interview with The Standard.
Despite her mixed background and unique upbringing, in her chat with “Despierta America,” Taylor-Joy shared a story that’s very easy to relate to as a Latin person. “Of the family that I know, well there’s like 27 of us,” she said.
“So when my mom is like, ‘This is your cousin, your aunt, etc.,’ I’m like ‘Ok, great,'” she said with a shrug. “Everyone’s family.”
