Apple Martin took to social media to share a special tribute to her father, Coldplay rocker Chris Martin, in celebration of his 49th birthday on Monday. The aspiring musician posted a photo of her and her dad smiling widely with the caption, “My hero’s birthday,” alongside a heart emoji.
The second photo featured Apple and Chris hugging during a night out, as well as smaller pictures of him with Apple and her brother, Moses, in their younger years. “Coolest dad in the world,” she wrote. “I love you more than anything.”
Chris shares his two kids with his ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, to whom he was married from 2003 to 2014. The couple remained close after their divorce, with the Oscar winning-actress even sharing a tribute to her ex on his birthday in 2025.
“Happy Birthday to the man that gave me these beautiful, wonderful human beings,” she wrote on social media. “We [love] you, Chris.”
Gwyneth moved on with writer and director Brad Falchuk, and the pair tied the knot in 2018, while Chris dated Materialists star Dakota Johnson between 2017 and 2025.
Gwyneth and Chris committed to peaceful co-parenting in the wake of their split, as the Goop founder told Bustle in 2023.
“[Chris] and I both really did not want to have them experience the divorce as a trauma,” she explained. “We knew it would be hard, of course, but we didn’t want them to ever feel in the middle, or that one of us was slagging off the other one.”
“At that time, I did a very me thing, which was when I knew I wanted to get a divorce, I did this data collection of talking to adults who had been products of a broken home,” Gwyneth continued.
“Every single one of them said, ‘I didn’t care that my parents got divorced. That wasn’t it…But the fact that they wouldn’t speak to each other, that they couldn’t both sit at a dinner table for my birthday.’ They said that was the most awful thing.”
“You could see they held it with so much hurt and anger,” she added. “I was like, ‘That’s what I’m never going to do.’ And we really didn’t.”
Apple is following in her father’s footsteps with her budding music career. In October 2025, she released a single, “Satellites”, in collaboration with the indie rock duo Jade Street.
She is also a keen actress, having joined a theater group at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where she is studying law, history and society. “I’m in the lovely Vanderbilt Original Cast, the esteemed cabaret theater group,” she told Interview magazine.
“This semester’s show is a musical parody of Love Island called Love on an Island. It’s so fun. The songs are phenomenal.”
“I have a very low voice, so whenever we’re doing harmonies, it’ll be like, ‘Alright, it’s the boys and Apple,'” she continued. “I’m singing my absolute favorite song this semester, which I’m so excited about. I’m definitely not the best in the org, but I love it.”
