Arnold Schwarzenegger recently celebrated his 69th birthday. While he celebrated by encouraging his followers to follow in his fitness, his loved ones celebrated him with sweet tributes online, including his daughter, Katherine. In her post, she shared various photos of Schwarzenegger over the years, including a sweet and recent photo showing him alongside his ex-wife Maria Shriver.
The post was shared a couple of days ago, showing numerous photos of Schwarzenegger over the years, including a screenshot of him and Katherine on a FaceTime conversation, and other photos of him holding a younger Katherine, sharing a look at his role as a father.
Katherine also shared a photo of Maria and Schwarzenegger, which appeared to have been taken on a snowy vacation. In it, both smile brightly at the camera as they sit down, leaning close to one another. Schwarzenegger wore a navy puffer jacket, black pants, and some sunglasses.
In the case of Maria, she wore a puffer jacket with roses on it, black pants, white Salomon sneakers, and sunglasses. “Happy Birthday, Dad,” Katherine captioned the post. “So lucky you’re ours… and even luckier our kids get you as Opa.”
A closer look at Schwarzenegger and Shriver’s relationship
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver met in the ’70s, becoming one of the most prominent couples in Hollywood, with him being one of the world’s biggest celebrities and Shriver being a journalist and a member of the Kennedy family. They got married in 1986, welcoming their first child, Katherine, two years later.
The pair welcomed the rest of their kids in the following years, including Christina, Patrick, and Christopher. Shriver supported Schwarzenegger through his various runs for office, serving as California’s first lady from 2003 to 2011. That year, they announced their split, with Schwarzenegger admitting that he had fathered a child with another woman, his son Joseph Baena.
Still, the two have mended their relationship over the years. “There is nothing more important than to have a good partner by your side, and every step of the way Maria was that. We have a really great relationship,” Schwarzenegger said on his documentary “Arnold.”
“Any type of special day, we are all together as a family. But it’s not what it was when we were all together under one roof as a family. That’s not the case anymore.”
In an interview with PEOPLE, Schwarzenegger spoke fondly of Shriver. “My chapter with Maria will continue on forever. Even though it’s a different relationship, there’s no reason for me to feel anything other than love for her.”
