Bad Bunny’s “DeBÍ TiRAR MÁS FOToS World Tour” is officially over, and he finished it with two surprise sold-out shows in Puerto Rico. Roughly 70,000 fans enjoyed the magic at San Juan’s Estadio Hiram Bithorn on August 22nd and 23rd. But his concert came during a difficult time for the United States territory, and he ended the night with a big message about the water crisis.

With Puerto Rico dealing with a serious water shortage, severe drought conditions, water rationing, power problems, and a controversial luxury development on the island, Bad Bunny made it clear where he stands. “I can’t bring water to those who don’t have water. I can’t bring electricity to people whose power goes out every day,” he told the crowd. “What I want to give you today is a little bit of joy,” he said, before encouraging Puerto Ricans to hold onto their pride and stand their ground.

“I want to bring you today the will to keep feeling this pride of being from here,” he continued. “What I want to give you today is hope and strength to fight and continue to defend this land.”

He took the message one step further, saying the larger forces are pushing Puerto Ricans to give up on their home. “This chaos, this disaster is created on purpose to try to play with our emotions, to try to give up, to leave, so they can continue to sell this island part by part and fulfill its mission of a Puerto Rico without Puerto Ricans,” he said. He also called for Puerto Rico’s Governor Jenniffer González Colón to resign.

More than 180,000 residents are affected by rotating 48-hour water shutoffs in San Juan and surrounding municipalities. The island also recorded its driest July in more than 120 years.

Of course, aside from the serious moments, there was a lot of fun and guest performers. The singer brought out the artists who have been part of his story. Farruko, Arcángel, Ñengo Flow, Víctor Manuelle, Rauw Alejandro, Jowell & Randy, RaiNao and DEI V were among those who joined him onstage.

After spending months traveling, he reflected on how there is no place like home. “We’ve had the privilege of singing, dancing and playing around the world,” he told the crowd. “Countries we never imagined we would be in. There’s nothing like being here in Puerto Rico.”
