To most teenagers, no one is more embarrassing than their parents. And although Prince George was born to one of the country’s most influential couples, he too is no stranger to feeling mortified by his mother and father from time to time.

The Prince and Princess of Wales resurfaced briefly from their annual summer break on Saturday for a family outing to the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Arriving in Glasgow for the penultimate day of the sporting event, the Waleses appeared like any other family, laughing and joking throughout the day.

Kate admitted that Dame Laura Kenny, five-time Olympic champion cyclist, had tried to convince her and William to “come and give it a go” in the velodrome.

She said Kate had jokingly replied: “Be careful what you wish for as they want to put us on a tandem bike in the velodrome.” Later, as the family made their way outside, where a brief spell of sunshine greeted them, they spoke with Welsh TV presenter Gethin Jones.

Gethin turned to the Wales children and asked: “Would you like to see mum and dad on a tandem in the velodrome later?” George immediately replied: “No!”

Catherine, who was seated beside him, burst out laughing while William quipped: “We embarrass you enough as it is.”

The family also met gymnasts Abigail and Emily Roper who both won bronze medals earlier in the week. Including her youngest son in the conversation, Kate turned to Louis and said: “Louis, you’re perfecting your handstand at the moment.” With his arms folded, he answered “a bit” before adding that “Charlotte says I’m not very good.”

Charlotte, who “loves ballet and gymnastics,” admitted she could successfully do a handstand. Meanwhile, George told them he was “rubbish with anything that involves flexibility.”

The event marked the first time that Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight, have been seen in Scotland, and the first time the youngest of the trio has been old enough to attend an official sporting event. They watched netball, cycling, and Judo in Glasgow, including a nail-biting netball fixture between Australia and Jamaica. After the game, they were joined by Scottish swimmer Archie Goodburn.

They sat down to chat with Welsh athletes about the Games and discuss their children’s school sports. As the Prince and Princess of Wales stopped to chat with volunteers with their eldest child, Charlotte and Louis excitedly greeted the Games’ unicorn mascot, Finnie.

Charlotte waved at the mascot before reaching up to give an excited high five, prompting the unicorn to leap up into the air before offering her younger brother a high five too.

Each of the three children had dressed smartly for the event, with George and Charlotte matching in white ensembles. The eldest of the trio wore a crisp white shirt while his sister donned a button-up polka dot dress. Charlotte showed off her wonderfully long hair, which, much like her mother’s, now reaches well below her shoulders.

Louis, meanwhile, was pictured wearing a pale white short-sleeved shirt and was, at one stage, seen cheekily holding a bucket hat down on his head.
