Beauty queen faces legal fight as Miss Universe backs her

Fátima Bosch is approaching the final months of her historic Miss Universe reign with an unexpected legal battle following her. The Mexican beauty queen, who won Miss Universe 2025 in Thailand, is facing a criminal complaint filed by Thai pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisil over statements Bosch made after their highly publicized confrontation during the competition. 

Now, Itsaragrisil says authorities are moving to expedite a possible arrest warrant, while Bosch is refusing to back down and the Miss Universe Organization has publicly come to her defense. 

Bosch is facing a criminal defamation complaint in Thailand, which is not simply a conventional civil lawsuit. And as of August 24, there is no independent confirmation that an arrest warrant has actually been issued for Bosch. 

Why is Fátima Bosch facing legal action?

The dispute goes back to November 4, 2025, during Miss Universe activities in Bangkok. Bosch and Itsaragrisil became involved in a tense confrontation after the Thai executive questioned her participation in sponsor-related activities. Bosch later alleged that he insulted and humiliated her in front of other contestants.

The confrontation was captured on video, and several contestants walked out in support of Bosch. She would go on to win Miss Universe 2025 later that month. 

Itsaragrisil disputes Bosch’s version of what he said. Bosch maintained that he called her “dumb,” while Itsaragrisil has argued that he actually used the word “damage.” The disagreement eventually moved beyond the pageant stage.

Itsaragrisil filed a criminal complaint against Bosch in Thailand in November 2025, alleging that comments she made afterward were false and harmed his reputation and that of Miss Grand International. 

Nawat Itsaragrisil says an arrest warrant is being expedited

The controversy resurfaced dramatically in August 2026. Itsaragrisil posted on Instagram that Bosch was subject to an expedited process involving a potential arrest warrant connected to allegations of defamation, false accusations and dissemination of false information. 

He also posted what appeared to be documentation connected to Thai police proceedings. 

Fátima Bosch responds to the legal controversy

Bosch addressed the renewed legal pressure in a statement shared on social media, framing the situation as an attempt to intimidate her for speaking out about how she says she was treated.

The reigning Miss Universe said she does not regret defending herself during the original confrontation. “I do not regret defending my place that day,” she said.

Bosch also argued that women should be able to set boundaries and demand respectful treatment without fearing retaliation. She said the original incident was recorded and witnessed publicly and maintained her position about what happened. 

Her broader message was summed up in the title of her statement: “Today it is my turn to tell this story; my hope is that tomorrow no woman has to live it.”

Miss Universe publicly supports Fátima Bosch

The Miss Universe Organization responded with an unusually direct show of support for its reigning queen. In its August 23 statement, the organization said, “Violence, intimidation, humiliation, disrespect, and mistreatment of women” are unacceptable. 

Miss Universe also declared: “No woman should ever feel that she must remain silent” to protect an opportunity, position, title or dream. The organization said Bosch’s decision to defend herself carried a larger message about women’s dignity and explicitly stated that it stands with her. It characterized the controversy not as a question of nationality, crowns or competition, but as one involving dignity, safety and respect. 

MU West, one of the two equal partners in the Miss Universe Organization, similarly said that “respect is not something we earn through silence. It is a right.” 

Bosch is still the reigning Miss Universe and remains the international face of the organization as the 2026 competition approaches.

When is Fátima Bosch’s last day as Miss Universe Mexico?

Bosch’s national reign is now just days away from ending. The Miss Universe México 2026 final is scheduled for August 29, 2026, in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, where Bosch is expected to crown her successor. The date was moved from an earlier plan to hold the final on August 22 in Mexico City. 

That means August 29, 2026, is effectively Fátima Bosch’s final day as the reigning Miss Universe México, assuming the scheduled succession proceeds as announced.

Her successor will then represent Mexico at Miss Universe 2026.

When is Fátima Bosch’s last day as Miss Universe?

Bosch will hold onto her biggest crown for several more months. The Miss Universe Organization has officially scheduled the 75th Miss Universe Final Competition for November 24, 2026, at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico. 

The official Miss Universe website also lists November 24 as the date when the 2026 competition culminates in Puerto Rico. Therefore, November 24, 2026, is expected to be Fátima Bosch’s final day as Miss Universe, when she is scheduled to crown the next winner.
