Ben Affleck is the father of three teenagers. It’s not an easy road. In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Affleck discussed numerous topics, from his new film to his win on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. But his best story featured his kids, who have well-defined personalities.
“What I’ve found is that now there’s not only one teenager rolling their eyes,” said Affleck, who’s the father of Violet, 20, Fin, 17, and Samuel, 14. “I’ll kind of launch something at the dinner table, and now I catch them giving each other looks. And I realize… I am the caricature in this story.“
Affleck revealed that even though he never thought he’d ever stop being the “cool dad,” there’s still something moving about seeing his kids band together, even if they’re against him.
He illustrated it best with an example. “My kids are talking at dinner, and they’re talking about their friends and the drama and their relationships. And I have some lived experience. I think that’s worth sharing some lessons. These are the kinds of things we give to our children,” he said.
© Disney via Getty Images“I said, ‘The thing about that relationship with that person…’ and my 17-year-old goes, ‘Oh, like you’re the expert on relationships?'” The comment appears to reference Affleck’s two divorces, and it sparked laughter from the audience.
The comment was made by Fin, who appears to have a great sense of humor. They starred in another of Affleck’s stories, this time around, in a bookstore. “We’re just browsing around, and there’s some book by a French guy and it’s called ‘I’m Sorry for Everything,’ and my kid immediately turns to me, deadpan, and goes, ‘Oh, look, Dad, it’s your autobiography,’” said Affleck.
