Ben Affleck spent quality time with his two eldest kids, Violet, 20, and Fin, 17, after celebrating his birthday with his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, a week prior.

The actor stepped out in black pants and a light-colored button-down as he took Violet and Fin to Fia, a restaurant in Santa Monica.

Violet stood tall in a red skirt that fell to her knees, paired with a purple sweater, running shoes and a cross-body bag. She wore a mask on her face as usual, with the university student speaking out in the past about the importance of public health.

Fin was dressed in dark-colored overalls and a striped long-sleeve shirt, paired with sneakers and a cross-body bag like their sister. Ben’s 14-year-old son, Samuel, was not present.

The family outing comes just a week after Ben was joined by Jennifer and their three children on August 22 to celebrate his 54th birthday at Farmshop in Los Angeles. Ben and Jennifer were married from 2005 to 2018, and have remained close friends as they continue to co-parent their kids.

Co-parenting with Jennifer

The Alias actress recently revealed how Ben had stepped up as a co-parent, particularly when she decided to take on more roles.

“My kids are a little bigger 1787626004. Their dad has become this incredible co-parent,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “He’s wonderful. He takes care of them. He’s a great partner in that way. And that’s very freeing.”

Ben had similar praise for Jennifer and their children when speaking to Access Hollywood. “I could not be more proud of my children. I can’t even tell you,” he said.

“[Violet] takes after her mom. She’s spectacular. And I’m very lucky that I’ve got a great partner and that we got great kids. It’s the joy of my life, and I’m just very, very lucky. And it makes me happy every day.”

Saying goodbye to Chris

Ben’s outing with Violet and Fin was one of his first public appearances since the death of his beloved mother, Chris Affleck, who passed away in June following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

“Her greatest wish after her diagnosis…was to live to see her grandson [Atticus] graduate high school,” her obituary in The Boston Globe read. “She did so, attending with her family on May 31, 2026. She died peacefully, in her sleep, two days later.”

According to the obituary, Chris’ grandchildren were “the animating force of her last two decades,” and she “was suitably proud of her descendants’ achievements, but she was delighted when they questioned, defied, or cleverly engaged authority.”

Ben was incredibly close to his mom, and even shared a special moment with her when he and Matt Damon won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Good Will Hunting in 1998. “We were sitting next to our moms, and we won, and we kind of hugged our moms. I remember how everyone had made such a big thing out of it as if this was such a novelty,” Ben later told Vanity Fair.

“There was nobody else that was going to go. That was it. Of course, our moms were gonna go. That was really innocent and not faked.”
