Beyoncé experienced a startling technical issue during her first Cowboy Carter concert in Houston.
During her Saturday, June 28 show at NRG Stadium, the 43-year-old singer was performing “16 Carriages” while seated atop a red convertible suspended above the audience. Midway through the song, the car suddenly began to tilt, leaving Beyoncé dangling at an alarming angle.
A TikTok video captured the moment the vehicle shifted. In the footage, Beyoncé can be seen holding onto a cable while the car slants noticeably in the air. She appears secured by a harness as she grips the side of the car.
“Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop,” she says into her microphone as the music abruptly cuts off. Suspended high above the crowd, Beyoncé looks down toward the ground and then back up before flashing a smile as fans cheer in support.
Still hanging mid-air, she calmly addresses the audience, saying, “Thank y’all for your patience.” The car is then safely lowered toward the center of the stadium.
As the vehicle descends and levels out, Beyoncé adjusts her position, shifting back into her original seated pose on top of the car. She continues smiling as the stage lights dim. According to the Houston Chronicle, the prop malfunctioned halfway through the song. Once lowered to the ground, Beyoncé briefly stepped off stage before returning to complete her set, as reported by Hot New Hip Hop.
The specific cause of the malfunction has not been confirmed.
Later, a clip shared on X (formerly Twitter) showed Beyoncé acknowledging the incident after resuming her performance. “If ever I fall, I know y’all would catch me,” she told the crowd, which was met with a roar of applause.
