Brad Pitt is back to his ways as a leading man for his new film The Riders, and from the first on-set photos, it’s clear he’s leaning all the way into character.
The actor was spotted filming the drama on Greece’s island of Hydra, and his transformation into Fred Scully has a rugged essence we haven’t seen him in for some time.
Rocking long, messy hair and a salt and pepper beard, Pitt looked like an emotionally weathered dad wearing textured layers and rumpled denim.
Production began after Pitt touched down in Greece on February 18, arriving in Athens with his girlfriend Ines de Ramon, before heading to Hydra. He’s filming alongside castmates Julianne Nicholson, Danny Huston, and child actress Coco Greenstone.
The film follows an Australian man living in Ireland who embarks on a desperate search across Europe after his wife mysteriously disappears, leaving only their traumatized daughter behind. Based on Tim Winton’s novel and directed by Edward Berger, the story is a psychological, grief-driven journey.
From the pics, you can tell how intense it’s going to get. In one scene, Pitt cradled his young co-star in his arms. He looked locked into the scene emotionally.
Another image shows him paused between takes outdoors, still in costume, with his face covered in blood.
While Pitt’s role is filled with intensity and emotional weight, he’ll have someone to help him let it go when the day wraps. De Ramon is overseas with him, and she looked excited to support him in the pictures captured last week by paparazzi, marking the first time the pair had been seen together publicly in about three months.
What’s next for Brad’s career on screen
The Riders follows F1, which earned four nominations for the 98th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Visual Effects, Sound, and Film Editing.
As for what’s next, his slate is stacked, and it’s a mix of fan-favorite returns and intriguing new projects. First up, he’s set to reprise one of his most beloved roles as Cliff Booth in The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which is already completed and set to release this year.
He’s also heading back into slick con-man mode as Rusty Ryan in Ocean’s 14, currently in pre-production, signaling another epic reunion for the iconic franchise.
Beyond sequels, Pitt has fresh material on the horizon. Heart of the Beast, now in post-production, is set to showcase his dramatic range yet again, while the dystopian Land of Opportunity is also in pre-production.
