Bridget Fonda looked better than ever as she stepped out in Los Angeles for a shopping day on Tuesday, amid her incredible weight loss transformation.

It is estimated that the reclusive star has lost 100 lbs in recent years, and she has been seen out and about more frequently despite stepping back from the spotlight in the early ’00s.

The 62-year-old was pictured looking laid back as she sported a white shirt, a blue button-up shirt over the top with the sleeves rolled up, and black tracksuit pants amid her outing.

She paired the look with a crocheted black handbag and gray sneakers, and she wore her gray tresses pulled back into a relaxed ponytail.

She was considered one of Hollywood’s most beautiful stars

Bridget was a certified star in the ’80s and ’90s, having hailed from the famous Fonda family before going on to carve her own path in Hollywood with roles in The Godfather III, Scandal, Single White Female, and In the Gloaming.

While she was widely considered to be one of the industry’s most beautiful stars, Bridget candidly revealed in a 2000 interview that she struggled with her self-esteem and often compared herself to her peers.

“What is it with my low self-esteem?” she said. “I’m trying to be happy with my career. I think I should give myself a break, but I’ve got this bug that rides me. ‘You should be doing better.'”

“Every time I work, I’m frustrated with my physical inability to catch up to my mental picture,” she continued, before later adding that leaving the industry allowed her to learn self-acceptance.

Picking her projects

The actress shared with The Guardian that she didn’t want to be typecast in Hollywood and preferred to choose projects that called to her. “My tastes are too diverse. I don’t want to be known as someone who can only do a certain thing, or be a certain way,” she explained.

“I want to have the freedom to experiment. Who wants to be narrowed down or put in a box? I’m freer this way; I’ll never be cast as the girl who’s so pretty she can just stand there, or the one who’s so quirky and comical that the whole thing stands or falls on her performance.”

The actress now lives a reclusive life in LA

Bridget left the industry behind in the early ’00s after she was involved in a serious car crash that left her with fractured vertebrae. She also stepped back to raise her son, Oliver Elfman, whom she welcomed in 2006 with her husband, famed composer Danny Elfman.

Her last onscreen project was in 2002’s Snow Queen, and Bridget shared with a paparazzo in 2023 that she had no plans to return to acting as it was “too nice being a civilian”.

The one role she regretted

Bridget revealed that she regretted passing on Ally McBeal

While Bridget enjoyed soaring success in her acting career, there was one role that she regretted passing on, as she told The New York Post in 1999.

“Right now I’m doing really well with my film career, but that may all change, and I’ll turn on Ally McBeal one night and start kicking myself,” she reflected.

“I refused to read the script for fear I might really like it. I’ve never wanted to do TV. I love feature films too much.”

“I’m not kicking myself for having passed on Ally McBeal,” she added. “Even though it’s a huge hit, I’ve been acting long enough to know it could have been a complete dud with me in it. It may work as well as it does because of Calista [Flockhart].”
