Britney Spears was arrested on Wednesday night in Ventura County, California. The singer was handcuffed and taken in at around 9:30 PM, with her booked at around 3 AM Thursday morning. She was arrested for a DUI.
According to arrest records, Spears was released three hours after her booking and is expected for a court appointment on May 4th. In the hours since, Spears has deleted her Instagram.
Over the past months, Spears has continued to share clips and posts on her social media, discussing her reunion with her son, Jayden, and his wish to get involved in the music industry. She also discussed the possibility of her making a comeback, making it clear that she had no interest in touring in the United States.
On her Instagram, Spears said she “will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons.” In a separate post showing her sitting next to a piano, she wrote, “Sending this piano to my son this year!!! Interestingly enough, I dance on IG to heal things in my body that people have no idea about. Yup and it’s embarrassing sometimes… but I walked through the fire to save my life.”
Spears’ conservatorship
In 2021, after a public battle and spectacle, Spears was released from her 13-year conservatorship. She then published a memoir titled “The Woman In Me,” discussing her life and the controlling behavior she was subjected to. In 2024, it was reported that the film would be adapted into a film directed by Jon M. Chu, who recently directed the “Wicked” films to commercial success.
“She did what she had to do to survive,” he said to Esquire. “She deserves a story that honors that.”
Very little is known about the film, with Chu shutting down rumors of casting. “None of this is true,” he wrote on X after names like Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, and Millie Bobby Brown were linked to the film. “Sounds exciting but have not had one conversation about casting this movie yet. We are way too early in development. Sorry.”
Spears hasn’t released an album since her 2016 record, “Glory.” She last performed in the US in 2018, in a show hosted at the Formula One Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. Earlier this year, she sold her music catalog to Primary Wave in what was described as a landmark agreement, reportedly netting her around $200 million.
