Britney Spears has shared a lot of stuff on the internet, but her recent post is one of her most personal statements yet. On Friday, the pop star shared a lengthy message on X, reflecting on the conservatorship that controlled much of her adult life, her relationship with her parents and children, her faith, and why she says she no longer wants to be part of the entertainment industry.

Spears shared a series of screenshots with text on them. “I feel I’ve been misunderstood in my life,” Spears wrote, explaining that she wanted to “give perspective” rather than judge anyone. “I want to get closer to God and get my heart in its most beautiful, spiritual way and have dreams again.”

Much of the statement focused on the conservatorship, with Spears saying she spent years feeling like she wasn’t allowed to be herself.

“My intention and mindset were in a completely different place when I used to perform,” she wrote. “Not one time in those 15 years was it ever me and the way I used to think.”

Looking back, Spears questioned how the situation was allowed to happen, writing, “As I get older and understand my real value as a woman, I look back and say, ‘How the hell would a government allow that?'”

She also claimed she felt “brainwashed into an ignorant system where every goddamn person took advantage of me” and said she “never got to be me, the real Spears.”

The singer also reflected on motherhood, saying she only realized years later that her parents had allegedly been taking her sons to the beach without her knowledge during the conservatorship. “Those two little bodies came out of my belly,” she wrote. “Yes, they are mine.”

She described the experience as “demoralizing” and recalled crying “for two months” after learning about what she says happened.

Elsewhere in the post, Spears questioned the value of fame, wondering whether “fame is an illusion” and saying she’d rather spend time with inspiring people who aren’t celebrities.

The singer said she no longer want so be a part of the entertainment industry

She also revealed she no longer wants to continue in the entertainment industry. “I don’t want to be in the business,” she wrote. “It’s not like it was when I was younger.”

Instead, Spears said her focus is on faith, sharing that she prays and practices yoga every day and wants to strengthen her relationship with God.

She also revealed that a recent conversation with one of her sons, who told her he doesn’t personally believe in God, left her questioning herself as a mother before reaffirming her own beliefs.

“I’ve cried so much,” she wrote. “I’m extremely weak, but through weakness they say you will find the most strength because you surrender and give it to God.”

Toward the end of the message, Spears apologized for what she called mistakes from her past and reflected on how much she has changed.

“I want to tell my kids and people in general that I’m sorry for my mistakes in the past,” she wrote. “I simply want to give perspective openly because I feel I’ve been misunderstood in my life.”

The emotional statement comes nearly five years after Spears’ conservatorship ended in November 2021.

It’s been a year full of highs and lows for Spears. In March, the singer was arrested on suspicion of DUI before later pleading guilty to a reduced reckless driving charge and entering treatment.

Since then, those close to Spears have said she has been focused on rebuilding her life and reconnecting with her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden, who reportedly encouraged her to seek help and have been spending more time with her since turning 18 and leaving Hawaii, where they were living with their dad, Kevin Federline.
