Famed British heritage brand Burberry has launched a capsule collection paying tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II. Four new designs have been created with the Royal Collection Trust to mark the centenary of her birth.
The monarch was a huge fan of the brand, famously donning a plethora of their designs throughout her reign, most notably their headscarves, which she often donned for outdoor activities such as walking her dogs and horse riding. Her appreciation for the label was tremendous; so much so that the brand was awarded a Royal Warrant in 1955.
What’s in the new collection?
The new capsule, which is available from 12 March at Burberry.com and selected stores worldwide, has the late royal in mind and has taken inspiration from her iconic wardrobe.
It includes a belted car coat, designed in a timeless racing green, that features an organic silk lining and is emblazoned with the signature checked print in a new green and blue colourway that’s been created especially for the capsule. It’s inspired by a tartan worn by the Queen, known as the ‘Old Stewart Tartan’.
This same print features on the collection’s Scottish-woven cashmere scarf, and at the border of a silk twill scarf printed with a hand-painted depiction of Balmoral Castle, which is the Highland home of the Royal Family.
Excitingly, there’s a jewellery piece too, a gold-plated brooch in the shape of a Corgi wearing an enamelled check coat, finished with a freshwater pearl. Corgis were a breed Elizabeth famously loved; she owned over 30 during her life.
Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style
The collaboration launches ahead of the largest-ever exhibition of Queen Elizabeth II’s fashion, opening at The King’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace, next month. It features three Burberry items – a hooded riding cape from around 2010, an original invoice for a Burberry coat ordered in 1966, and a Burberry check silk scarf from 2013.
Royal fans are waiting with bated breath to see the extensive offering, which will be the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of the late Queen’s fashion to ever be presented.
The full exhibit will house around 200 show-stopping items for royal fans to devour. Clothing, jewellery, hats, shoes, and accessories will be available to observe, and visitors of the exhibit will discover never-before-seen design sketches, fabric samples, and handwritten correspondence that reveal the behind-the-scenes process of dressing the most famous woman in the world.
