Home Alone actress Catherine O’Hara has died age 71 following ‘a brief illness’ and she leaves behind her husband, Bo Welch, and their two children, Matthew and Luke. Since 1994, Catherine and Bo have resided in the same Los Angeles mansion – here’s everything we know…

Catherine and Bo purchased an impressive LA estate in 1994, the same year they welcomed their first son, Matthew. Luke was born three years later in 1997. They reportedly paid $1.25 million for the property and aerial footage reveals it has a kidney-shaped pool, tennis courts and plenty of outside space.

The star wasn’t keen on sharing too much about her private life, and the interiors of the home remained unseen, but judging on the scale of the residence, we’re guessing the inside had quite the array of features. As house prices in LA are 275.69 per cent up from where they were in 1990, Catherine’s real estate investment will have soared in value.

Despite living in the same mansion for 32 years, Catherine wasn’t a native to Los Angeles and was born in Canada. Schitt’s Creek filming took her back to the land of maple, as they used a town called Goodwood in Ontario for the backdrop.

The Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carne, even took to social media to pay tribute to the late star. “Over 5 decades of work, Catherine earned her place in the canon of Canadian comedy — from SCTV to Schitt’s Creek. Canada has lost a legend. My thoughts are with her family, friends, and all,” he wrote.

On Friday, the news broke of Catherine’s death, with her management releasing a short statement which read: “Prolific multi-award-winning actress, writer, and comedian Catherine O’Hara died today (Friday, January 30) at her home in Los Angeles following a brief illness.”

Since then, the great and the good of Hollywood have expressed their shock and sadness, penning tributes to the talented actress. Among the stars sharing their thoughts were co-stars, Dan and Eugene Levy, who appeared alongside Catherine in Schitt’s Creek.

Dan, who plays her on screen son in Schitt’s Creek, wrote a message on Instagram: “What a gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O’Hara’s brilliance for all those years.Having spent over fifty years collaborating with my Dad, Catherine was extended family before she ever played my family. It’s hard to imagine a world without her in it. I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her. My heart goes out to Bo, Matthew, Luke and every member of her big, beautiful family.”

Eugene, her on-screen husband, told the Daily Mail: “Words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today. I had the honor of knowing and working with the great Catherine O’Hara for over fifty years. From our beginnings on the Second City stage, to SCTV, to the movies we did with Chris Guest, to our six glorious years on Schitt’s Creek, I cherished our working relationship, but most of all our friendship. And I will miss her. My heart goes out to Bo, Matthew, Luke, and the entire O’Hara family.”
