After a busy start to 2026, including the Danish Royal Family’s first major gala of the year, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, the youngest children of King Frederik X and Queen Mary, are celebrating their 15th birthday. Born in Copenhagen’s Rigshospitalet, the royal twins are entering a new chapter as teenagers; as they’ve aged, they’ve become more and more visible at official engagements and have showcased their distinct interests. This milestone birthday also comes with a significant celebration that’s expected later this year.

Separate paths for the first time

Third and fourth in the line of succession, Vincent and Josephine have long shared the same academic path. That changed this school year, when the twins began studying separately for the first time. Prince Vincent remains enrolled at the private Kildegård School, where he previously studied alongside his sister. Princess Josephine, known for her fashion sense and strong personal style, surprised the world when she decided to move out of the palace to attend Spir Efterskole, a boarding school in southeastern Jutland.

Founded by a close friend of King Frederik, the school describes itself as a “modern, ambitious, and research-based” institution. According to sources, Josephine made the decision herself.

Following her new schedule and life, Josephine’s academics balance core subjects with sports and elective courses like gastronomy, art, and theater. Given her creative tendencies, the latter seems especially fitting for her. Over the years, the young princess has been featured on stage and has worked on two Danish television series, with her earning her roles through open auditions and traditional casting.

Confirmation celebrations, and a possible Spanish royal visit

Over the holidays, Vincent and Josephine reunited at home with their parents and older siblings, enjoying Christmas family traditions like baking cookies. Those moments likely included conversations about one of the most important royal events of the year: the twins’ Confirmation.

While an official date has yet to be announced, the ceremony is expected to take place in the spring, following the precedent set by their older siblings, Crown Prince Christian and Princess Isabella. Both were confirmed at Fredensborg Palace Church, a historic site dating back to 1726 and long associated with royal ceremonies.

Christian’s Confirmation took place under pandemic restrictions, while Isabella’s was celebrated without limitations. Both moments were important for the family, prompting celebrations attended by their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and godparents.

This context raises the possibility of a visit from Spain’s King Felipe VI, who is one of Prince Vincent’s six godparents. The Spanish monarch shared a warm moment with Vincent during a 2023 state visit to Denmark, captured in a widely shared photograph.

Prince Vincent’s other godparents include other notorious nobles and royals, like Gustav Sayn-Wittgenstein, the son of Princess Benedikte, Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille, the former lady-in-waiting to Queen Mary, Caroline Hering, and Baroness Helle Reedtz-Thott.

Princess Josephine’s godparents are Princess Marie and Patricia Donaldson, Count Bendt Wedell, Brigitte Handwerk, Prince Carlos of Bourbon, and Josephine Rechner, who is also a close friend of the Queen.
