Celine Dion’s return to the stage was truly an emotional moment years in the making.
The legendary Canadian songstress, 58, made her stage comeback on September 12 after a six-year hiatus with the start of her residency in Paris.
On stage at the La Defense Arena, Celine quickly burst into tears as thousands of fans welcomed her back at her first concert since revealing her Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis in 2022.
And joining her in living through the special moment were none other than her three sons, 25-year-old René-Charles Angélil and her 15-year-old twins, Eddy and Nelson.
Celine welcomed her three boys with her husband René Angélil. René, who was also the singer’s longtime manager, and Celine married in 1994 and remained together until his passing in 2016 from throat cancer.
In a collection of photos shared on Instagram on September 14, Celine captured the euphoria and the highlights from her big comeback concert, with one shot spotlighting her embrace with her boys.
All three wore matching blue sweatshirts featuring imagery of their mom, and looked so grown up. “What an incredible opening night! Still taking it all in,” the “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” singer captioned her post.
Fans of the singer responded with enthusiastic comments like: “You were incredible, thank you for putting on the show of a lifetime,” and: “An inspiring woman, an artist who reminds us why we do this job, a generous, vulnerable human being, someone who does good. Thank you Celine,” as well as: “I can’t describe how happy I am to see you on stage! You’re simply the best and we love you.”
Addressing the 30,000 fans in the crowd, Celine was filmed saying: “I made a promise… I made a promise to come back and to be back on stage.”
“Here I am singing for you, and singing for me. Thank you so very much for your support, your patience. I am everything I am because you love me. The path was rocky, the road was longer than planned, but I held on.”
© Getty ImagesTickets for Celine’s three-week residency this fall sold out instantly, to the point that she added more dates in May 2027 due to high demand. “It’s been so long, I would like to offer them something to show how I’ve missed them,” the singer told Harper’s Bazaar a few weeks before her first show. Celine first announced the shows on her 58th birthday as “the best birthday gift of my life.”
When asked what she thinks is the reason why her fans find themselves so drawn to her, she mused: “It’s got to be because I’m an open book. I’m honest, and it’s not always pretty.”
