It is a big night for fans of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D, and it’s cast. On Wednesday, March 4, the three One Chicago franchise series are coming together for a big crossover — and for Miranda Rae Mayo, who stars as firefighter Lieutenant Stella Kidd, it’s particularly special.

The episode is airing weeks after the ten-year anniversary of Miranda’s debut episode, which originally aired during season four in 2016.

The crossover kicks off at 8pm ET on NBC

Speaking with People about the crossover, and whether there is added stress filming such a highly-anticipated episode, she confirmed there is, adding: “We know how much the fans love the crossover, and last year, I think there was a lot of pride in all of the shows about what we put together.”

“It is a huge beast, production-wise, to make these movies, really. It is a big mountain that we are all climbing together,” she noted. “So, all of the feelings that come along with that, with looking up at the mountain before you climb it. And then we also have all of those feelings that you feel once you’re at the top.”

The big crossover episode begins on NBC with Chicago Fire season 14 episode 13 at 8pm ET, then Chicago Med season 11 episode 13 at 9pm ET, and finally Chicago P.D. season 13 episode 13 at 10pm ET.

The three-episode crossover is all the more anticipated as it is the first time any new One Chicago episodes will air in the past month, as NBC’s primetime Winter Olympics coverage had taken over its usual slot.

“Firehouse 51 is called to an airfield when a passenger jet suddenly goes silent mid-air, triggering a high-stakes emergency. Their discovery cracks open a bigger and deadlier mystery — one with consequences that could ripple far beyond the runway and put countless lives in jeopardy,” reads the logline for the three-episode story.

HELLO!’s Los Angeles correspondent and resident One Chicago expert Rebecca Lewis called the crossover one of the most striking and impressive that the franchise has ever attempted.

“The mystery of the airplane is terrifying enough, but as the hours progress, it turns into a thriller of movie proportions,” she says.  “Each episode gives equal weight to characters across the franchise, meaning you never know which show you’re watching at any given time – the sign of a clever crossover – and when you throw in the emotional gravity of the return and reunion of Jay Halstead and Haley Upton, it’s an exceptional three hours of TV.”

Miranda, 35, also reflected on the very first scene she filmed ten years ago, recalling: “I think there were six out of the 10 regular characters on the show, and anytime you get four or more of us in one space, especially the original cast, it’s just hilarious chaos. So the energy was electric.”

“Everybody was laughing. And I remember I had to wait to go on camera to enter the doors with Jesse Spencer [who played Matthew Casey], and he is the No. 1 on the call sheet at the time, and I didn’t have any expectation really,” she went on, adding: “Other experiences I’d had with other No. 1s was there was a significant status difference between me and them. And Jesse was just a love. He was so warm. We laughed. He cracked jokes. He asked me about myself. He was interested.”

“It was just so refreshing and I felt so happy to be there. It was Jesse, Monica [Raymund, who plays Gabby Dawson], David [Eigenberg, who plays Christopher Herrmann], Christian [Stolte, who plays Mouch], Yuri [Sardarov, who played Otis]. It was great.”
