Chris Hemsworth has opened up about relocating his family from Los Angeles to Australia. During an appearance on the Smartless podcast, the 42-year-old described the move as the “greatest decision” he’s made.
The actor and his wife, Elsa Pataky, reside in a sprawling $29 million AUD home in New South Wales. The couple moved in 2014 and the property was reconstructed into a mansion boasting six bedrooms, a media room, gym, spa and game room. The stunning abode overlooks the sea and features a luxurious terrace and dreamy swimming pool. The home is the perfect sanctuary for raising her three children, India, 12, and 11-year-old twins, Tristan and Sasha.
“It was right around the time my boys were born, and it was just, we kind of were set up in L.A. and not enjoying it, you know?” shared Chris. “Like nothing was shooting there. We were filming kind of everywhere else.”
He continued: And then… you’d come home and paparazzi and all the sort of the trappings of, you know, living in that space.”
Chris explained that one of the greatest benefits of relocating to a “big farm” Down Under was that his children have more opportunity to be outside in nature. “You know, when you come back from work, you wanna go on a holiday? Like coming home for me is — it feels like a holiday. We have a big farm and horses and motorbikes and surf,” he said.
The star compared the experience to his own upbringing in Australia with his two brothers, Liam and Luke Hemsworth. “We lived about 20 minutes from, like, the main sort of suburban areas in Melbourne up in the hills,” he shared. “And the nearest neighbor was a kilometer or two away.”
“It was just all bushland and rainforest sort of set up around us,” he added. “And so we would just [have] … adventures outdoors and playing different characters. And I think that’s, to be honest, where the sort of intrigue or interest in that transportation into another.”
Chris and Elsa were introduced by Chris’s talent agent in 2010 and married just months later in an intimate ceremony. They welcomed India in 2012, followed by twins Sasha and Tristan in 2014.
During an exclusive interview with HELLO!, Elsa spoke to us about the secret behind their successful marriage. “Marriage needs constant work, and you learn a lot from the rough patches. You have to try to keep growing together, making sure that your paths carry on crossing,” she shared.
“It’s about finding the fun, enjoying the little moments and remaining curious about each other. You have to be ready to adapt, and because there are situations that separate you, you need to know how to find each other again.”
