Chris Hemsworth is facing many changes in his life. The 42-year-old actor is promoting his new film, “Crime 101,” and has been sharing a look at his life, including how his father’s health and his children’s growth have been taking a toll on him.

“My appetite for racing forward has really been reined in,” he said in an interview with The Guardian. “I’ve become more aware of the fragility of things. You start thinking, ‘My dad won’t be here forever.’ And my kids are now 11 and 13. Those nights where they’d fight over sleeping in our bed – suddenly they’re not happening anymore,” he said.

Hemsworth has described this moment as the “middle-passage” of his life, which has affected the way he works and how he sees himself.  “I used to think maybe if I was nominated for something, I’d feel good about myself. Or maybe if I had the biggest film of all time, or launched another franchise, then I’d feel fulfilled,” he said.

“It’s absurd. My self-worth doesn’t rest upon all of those exterior things anymore – though I still have to remind myself.”

He also opened up about the National Geographic documentary he released with his father, titled “Chris Hemsworth: A Roadtrip to Remember,” tracking a trip he took with his father, Craig Hemsworth, as they learned of his Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

In the past, Hemsworth had discussed with the world his high risk of obtaining Alzheimer’s disease at some point in his life, revealing that the realization made him spend more time with his family and reorganize his priorities.

“I wondered if I was letting people too far in,” he said. “Are they no longer going to believe in the action star or the Marvel character? And do I want people to know my fears and insecurities to this level?”

Hemsworth described the film as a “love letter” to his father. “People like to pretend [Alzheimer’s is] not happening, because it’s so uncomfortable for them, so you suffer in silence. People talk to you about the footy, and the weather, and stuff, and no one actually says, ‘How are you doing? Are you scared? Are you afraid?’”

“Crime 101” is coming out this February 13th, starring Hemsworth as a thief who’s eying his final score. It co-stars Halle Berry, Mark Ruffalo, and Barry Keoughan, and is directed by Bart Layton.
