Chris Pratt shared unexpected insight into family life with his four kids, Jack, Lyla, Eloise and Ford, revealing that the three youngest children had never seen a movie before despite their dad’s status as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
The 46-year-old spoke on the Today show about the way he parents with his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, and shared that she wanted to keep them away from screens for as long as possible.
“My five-year-old, my three-year-old and my one-year-old have never seen movies,” Chris admitted. “Katherine is very old-school when it comes to screens and technology and all of that stuff. So, we’re waiting.”
“There’s gonna be a season, they’re gonna realize their dad is really cool,” he continued. “They haven’t realized it yet, but one day.” Chris’s eldest son, Jack, whom he shares with his ex-wife Anna Faris, is more well-versed in the world of film than his younger half-siblings.
“My 13-year-old, I took him to a screening of the first movie,” he said of the Super Mario Bros. Movie. “He thinks it’s pretty cool.” The father of four added that Jack “likes” his movies, even if Lyla, Eloise and Ford don’t quite understand his job yet.
Katherine’s reasoning for not letting her kids watch movies appears to be sound, considering her own upbringing as the daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger, action star extraordinaire. “My wife is very cautious around showing them anything,” Chris told Nine.com.au.
“Her dad was the Terminator, and she went to visit him on-set one day when his face was, like, half melted off, and it was a little traumatic for her. So she’s very careful around what she allows the children to see. And my three youngest have not seen anything that I’ve done yet.”

“I’m waiting for her to, you know, go on vacation, and I’ll just give him the full movie marathon,” he said of his youngest, Ford. The Marvel star added that he will occasionally video call his kids from film sets and confuse them with his bloodied appearance.
“Sometimes my children don’t like it. So, I have to be mindful if I’m covered in blood and crazy hair and wigs and all of this stuff, I might not call them because they don’t fully understand what my job is, and why does Daddy look like that?” he explained. “But I will call my son [Jack] sometimes with some of these looks, and he’s like, ‘Wow!'”
“I recently did something on season two of The Terminal List where, when I called them, they were like, ‘Daddy, are you okay?!'” he continued. “I was like, ‘Oh yeah, no, no, this is not real. Don’t worry, honey.'”
Chris has spoken in the past about how his parenting style differs from Katherine’s, which creates a healthy balance for the whole family. “My style is very heavily influenced by how I was raised. I was a very sensitive kid, but my dad was very tough and very strict,” he said on Today.
“So I tend to be a little more mindful of the sensitivity in kids. So I’m not as tough, and I’m not as strict,” he shared, adding that his wife was “more of the rule enforcer”.
