Cindy Crawford has made it clear, she hates the term ‘ageless’. But as the supermodel turns 60 this week, there is no denying she looks as incredible as she did in the 90s – and we want all of her secrets!
In an industry where there is huge pressure to keep up with the latest aesthetic trends to look younger, Cindy stands out in a model line-up for not succumbing to any extreme surgical treatments to transform herself.
If you compare pictures of 90s catwalk Cindy to a modelling shot for her fitness brand Vuori last year, she appears to have aged effortlessly, looking just like a more grown-up, glowy version of herself with a couple more life lines to show the journey she has been on. She is a true testament to aging gracefully.
Looking so radiant at 60 is not down to genes alone. Cindy has revealed she is a fan of Onda Pro-wave treatments to boost the collagen in her skin and prevent sagginess from her jaw and face. She also developed her own beauty brand Meaningful Beauty to protect and enhance more mature skin, with legendary French facialist Dr Sebagh who she had been visiting in Paris for decades. “I created it so other women can have access to the same great skincare I use,” she said.
“It was Dr. Sebagh’s idea of using effective skincare to maintain skin’s youthful look that resonated with me. He always says, ‘It’s never too late and it’s never too early to start.’ This idea of ‘age maintenance’ is part of the Meaningful Beauty philosophy. Consistency in skincare and healthy lifestyle habits are how you achieve that.”
Cindy also swears by a regular routine of simple life hacks that she has adopted in midlife to maintain her glow, and keep her body and mind in check.
We can reveal eight of Cindy’s own easy life enhancing secrets that we can all regularly apply to our routine to look and feel good in our 60s.
Drink more water
Water. Water. Water. The source of life is the source of hydration necessary for glowing skin and overall health.
Keep it healthy, but leave room for treats
Eat 80% healthy, 80% of the time. This leaves room for enjoying life.
Dry brushing
Before showering dry skin, use the brush all over the body, brushing towards the heart. Not only do you brush off dead skin, you invigorate your body, stimulate your lymphatic system, reduce cellulite, and decongest your skin – then apply oil.
Take time in the morning to set up for success
Get up 20 minutes before the kids to have some me time. Taking care of yourself for 20 minutes before taking care of everyone else gives you a better chance of being your best self.
Grounding
Start the day outside with your feet in the grass to ground your body and connect to nature.
Don’t look at your phone the moment you wake up
What is the first input you want? Don’t look at voicemails or messages until you have taken time for yourself. If you are sent a stressful message or email you are then in response mode or adrenaline. I don’t want that, I am controlling the first input.
Look after your neck
Over 20 years ago, I saw a woman doing exercises for her neck. She explained that if you keep those muscles toned, it helps preserve the line of your jaw.
Mental exercise
Exercising isn’t only to make your body look good, it’s good for the mind as you age too. Also take up a hobby like Mahjong to keep you sharp!
