Supermodel Cindy Crawford has been at the top of her game ever since she stepped into the fashion industry aged 16. Almost five decades later, she revealed the secret snack that has helped her stay in shape.
The mother-of-two explained how she continues to manage her diet and exercise regimes as she turned 60, earlier this year, on 20 February.
Exposing her pantry’s secrets, the 90s fashion icon said she stocks up on one particular snack so that she feels satiated at the end of each day and doesn’t continue eating more food than she needs.
“I definitely need a piece of dark chocolate after dinner every night. If I don’t have it, I could eat a hundred other things and still not be satisfied,” the supermodel told Marie Claire.
She also revealed she tries her best to eat clean and steers clear of sugar where she can, opting for unpackaged, non-processed foods such as grilled vegetables and brown rice.
The star highlighted that she likes to follow the idea that she’ll be “80 per cent good, 80 per cent of the time” and confirmed she indulges in sweet treats every so often.
What does Cindy Crawford eat in a day?
The model, who shares two children, Kaia and Presley Gerber, with her husband, businessman Rande Gerber, broke down her daily meal plan and shared what a doctor had once told her about dieting.
During an interview with Allure, she said: “I once had a doctor who gave me great advice: ‘Find your healthiest weight and stay there. And don’t make it your skinniest weight because it’s unsustainable.'”
“Also, my face doesn’t look best when I’m at my thinnest. And that means that if my daughter wants to make brownies once in a while, I can have one with her. I don’t deprive myself a ton.”
Moving on to her eating habits, the former runway model eats three meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a snack in between her meals in the latter half of the day.
Cindy explained she likes to have “a protein shake with almond milk, coconut milk, and protein powder” and then will eat “half an Ezekiel or spelt muffin” at around 10:30 am.
She chooses a salad for her lunch, with or without protein depending on her appetite that day, and will finish off her meal with a square of dark chocolate. The model explained: “In my experience, if you’re craving something and deny yourself, you wind up eating five other things, and then you eat the thing you’re craving anyway.”
Between lunch and dinner, she will snack on “almonds, an apple and a slice of cheese, or hummus with celery”, essentially something protein-rich so she stays fun and dinner is usually salmon with grilled vegetables.
When it comes to a post-dinner tipple, Cindy is all for it as long as it is not a mixed sugary cocktail drink, usually opting for tequila on the rocks.
