Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez almost broke the internet when they announced on August 11, after weeks of speculation, that they’d officially tied the knot.
The couple wed on the exact day that they’d announced their engagement a year prior, and, as it turns out, the day has an even more special meaning for them.

The couple told Vogue in their first interview about the wedding that August 11 in 2016 also happened to be the day the pair first laid eyes on each other at a Gucci store in Madrid.
As the story goes, a then 31-year-old Ronaldo, one of the world’s leading athletes, walked into the store where a 22-year-old Georgina was covering a shift for a colleague. The football player told Vogue: “I had my back to her and then I turned around and saw her. Our eyes met, and from that point on it was….”
“It was a dream,” the model added. Ronaldo continued: “Yes, a dream. I know she’s the love of my life, and I think I am…I think she thinks I’m the love of her life.”

The newlyweds explained, in a conversation a few days before the actual nuptials, that they wanted to make it a simple occasion taking place at their summer home in Cascais, Portugal, a home they’d spent years building together but had only moved into a few months prior.
“We’ve chosen to do it in the living room of our house here,” Georgina explained. “Where we have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we live the reality of our lives. In 30 years’ time I want the children to think, ‘Something wonderful happened at this table—the wedding vows of our parents.'”
Ronaldo quipped: “It probably won’t be the same table. We might change the decor.” The pair wore Gucci, another nod to how they met, with Georgina opting for a white silk skirt suit, and Ronaldo going with a light beige cotton suit. And after the ceremony, they visited the Shrine of Our Lady Fatima for a private blessing.

The couple, who’ve welcomed six kids between them, also spoke about the future of their family, especially as Ronaldo posits this might be his “last year” playing football professionally. As for another baby, he states: “Never say never.”
The social media personality added: “Another baby now would be overbooking at home. But when the youngest are 15 or 16 we’ll still be young, so why not? It’s true that I can’t imagine myself without small children, so we’ll see.”
While they don’t have a honeymoon planned due to commitments, they are considering hosting a second, more lavish ceremony in the future. Although their priority was to tie the knot on their most meaningful anniversary.
“In the future we will have a big wedding, so we can celebrate with family and friends,” Georgina explained, continuing: “When I was a little girl, I dreamt of the biggest castle, the biggest carriage, the longest dress, a crown full of diamonds. And now I’m saying: no.”
