Cristiano Ronaldo made history last year when the Portuguese footballer became the first-ever football star to become a billionaire while still playing.
Although sports stars are famed for their millions, very few cross the threshold into billionaire status during their careers, with the only two others being golfing legend Tiger Woods and boxing giant Floyd Mayweather.
According to figures from Celebrity Net Worth, Cristiano is worth $1.2 billion, which is more than double that of the likes of Sir David Beckham, who is estimated to be worth $550 million.
The sportsman has already splashed the cash, presenting his fiancée, Georgina Rodriguez, with an enormous engagement ring, the diamond of which stretches all the way to the model’s knuckles! The stunning diamond is 30 carats, whereas normal celebrity engagement rings are only four carats, and the public might opt for a one-carat ring.
Maxwell Stone, a diamond expert from UK retailer Steven Stone, previously told HELLO! that the ring could be worth an estimated $6.5 million.
How did Cristiano make his money?
A lot of the star’s income comes from his stellar football career. As well as playing for the Portuguese national team in major cups, Cristiano has also played for Manchester United, Juventus, and he currently plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
The deal he currently has with his club is believed to be worth around $400 million a year. The contract also gives the star an additional £80k per goal and an extra £40k for every assist.
Back in 2020, Forbes estimated that the sports star had earned $650 million from playing in the sport alone. Celebrity Net Worth estimates that by the time he retires, the 41-year-old will be worth $2 billion.
However, it’s not just on the field that Cristiano has made his fortune, as savvy investments and sponsorships have also helped the sportsman. The star has fronted campaigns for Nike, Herbalife, Clear Shampoo, Binance, and TAG Heuer, and it’s believed that he has a $1 billion contract with Nike.
He also heads his own CR7 business, which has launched fashion brands, fragrances, footwear, and even gyms and hotels, the latter of which is done in partnership with the Pestana Group.
Back in 2024, Cristiano had a property portfolio worth an estimated £80 million. These included a mansion in Dubai, a £22 million mansion in Cascais, Portugal, a £6 million apartment in Lisbon and a lavish mansion in Turin that his partner, Georgina, once joked she would often get “lost” in.
