Cruz Beckham, 21, fired back at an online critic who mocked the age difference between him and his girlfriend Jackie Apostel, 30, with a comment referencing his mother’s famously strict diet.
The young musician made his relationship with the DJ public on Instagram in October 2024 after they were first seen together at Glastonbury. Since then, the couple have grown closer, despite their nearly ten-year age gap that sparks criticsm online.
Over the weekend, the pair became the subject of negative remarks about their relationship after Cruz posted a TikTok video. In the clip, Cruz showed himself making pancakes for Jackie, captioning it: “She wants crepe, she got em.”
One commenter took aim at their age difference with a sarcastic jab, writing, “I love when a son cooks for his mum.”
Cruz quickly responded with a joke, replying: “u think VB is eating a Nutella crepe, no chance daley.”
His remark referenced his mother Victoria Beckham’s well-known, strict eating habits. In the past, her husband, David Beckham, has shared that she has eaten the same meal daily for 25 years, sticking to grilled fish and steamed vegetables.
The 51-year-old fashion designer has also been known to avoid traditional birthday treats, once opting for a cake made entirely from watermelon and topped with strawberries and blueberries. Victoria, who has four children, has said she avoids foods cooked with oil, butter, or sauces, and does not eat red meat or dairy, admitting: “To most restaurants I’m probably their worst nightmare.”
Addressing David’s comments in an interview with Vogue Australia, she said he made her routine seem dull, while explaining that she prioritizes healthy fats and occasionally follows strict detox periods without alcohol.
She said during the interview, “I mean, talk about making me sound boring! No. What he meant is that he’s never met anyone who is more disciplined with the way that they eat.”
She continued, “I eat lots of healthy fat: fish, avocado, nuts, that sort of thing. I do drink alcohol, unless I have a reason not to. I’ll detox from anything for three to six months where I won’t drink. I’m quite extreme in anything I do, whether it’s eating or working out or drinking or not drinking.”
In her Netflix documentary, the former Spice Girl also opened up about her long history with disordered eating, describing her habits as “odd” and explaining that she began managing her weight in what she called an “incredibly unhealthy way” from a young age.
