Dakota Johnson isn’t saying much about her love life, but she confirmed what we’ve all thought about her taste in men. Aside from the recent guys in her life having amusing names, they are all musicians.
The actress is on the cover of Vogue’s October 2026 issue, where she opened up about her complicated relationship with fame, her desire for a more grounded life, and her long history of dating musicians.
Johnson has recently been linked to Machine Gun Kelly, real name Colson Baker, following her relationship with singer Role Model, real name Tucker Pillsbury, and her nearly eight-year romance with Chris Martin.
When Vogue asked Johnson about her current relationship status, she kept things mum. “I don’t want to say anything about that,” she said.
But when the conversation turned to her history with musicians, Johnson wasn’t quite as tight-lipped. “They like me. I don’t know what to say… And I like them,” she said.
When asked what there is not to like about musicians, the 36-year-old actress laughed before hilariously responding, “A lot! A lot. Tricky motherf***ers.”
She’s keeping her private life private
If Johnson treats her new fling like her relationship with Martin, we won’t be hearing about it because the Madame Web star doesn’t want her entire life playing out in public. “I am obsessed with people not knowing where I am or what I’m doing,” she told Vogue. “I’m far too porous and sensitive and present. I don’t—I can’t deal.”
Dakota wants to become a mom
Beyond the dating speculation, one of the most vulnerable moments in Johnson’s Vogue interview came when she spoke about wanting children.
“I really do,” she said when asked if she wants to have a family. Johnson admitted that she “didn’t expect to be this age and at this place” in her life, but said she believes there is a reason her life has unfolded the way it has.
“So I would love that. I hope that happens for me,” she said. “I’ve always felt, especially the last few years, that there is a soul that wants to come through. And I hope that I’m lucky enough to be able to do that.”
She also acknowledged that watching friends and people she works with start families can be difficult when her own life hasn’t followed the timeline she once imagined.
“It’s hard to be around my best friends, and even on set, and everyone has their baby, and, you know, starting families, and things turned out differently than I thought,” she said. “But it’s okay. I’m hopeful for that.”
Dakota Johnson’s history with musicians
It’s not exactly a secret that Johnson’s romantic history has repeatedly crossed into the music world.
She and Coldplay frontman Martin were together on and off for years before their relationship ended in 2025. They were fiercely private, but there were at one point even reports that they were engaged.
She was later linked to singer Role Model in December 2025, with the pair reportedly splitting sometime in mid-2026. It was confirmed in August, with sources telling PEOPLE they split “a while ago.”
Then came MGK, which has thrown social media for a loop. Over the weekend, they were spotted together in New York City after reportedly crossing paths at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding in July.
PEOPLE reported that the pair initially started as friends and began texting before spending more time together, with a source describing it as a “very new start” and “casual.”
