Danielle Spencer is embracing a new chapter – both professionally and personally – and it includes a meaningful full-circle moment with her ex-husband Russell Crowe.
The 56-year-old has returned to music with the release of her new album Regenerate, marking a major comeback for the Australian performer. And as she steps back into the spotlight, she’s also reflecting on a recent reunion with Russell that struck a deeply emotional chord.
Danielle recently took to the stage at Russell’s Indoor Garden Party at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, performing alongside a lineup of artists – and, notably, sharing the experience with her former husband. Speaking about the moment, she described the atmosphere as warm, supportive and unexpectedly special.
“It was really lovely, actually. It was a lovely bunch of people performing on the bill. I thought it was lovely of him to think of it,” she told Nine Honey.
For Danielle, the night wasn’t just about returning to live performance – it was about family. “I thought it was a really sweet thing to do, and it was lovely for our boys to have mum and dad both doing their thing up on stage,” she added, referring to the couple’s sons, Charles, 22, and Tennyson, 19.
“It felt like such a special moment; I haven’t performed with Russell in a long time,” Danielle said. “The night was incredible, the audience was so supportive, and there was a wonderful energy among everyone backstage.”
Reflecting on the experience, she described it as “a nice, kind of full circle moment.” While their relationship today appears grounded in mutual respect and friendship, Danielle has been candid about the emotional complexity of their split.
In a recent podcast interview with Stellar, she opened up about the guilt she carried following the breakdown of their marriage.
“It’s really sad breaking up with somebody that you’ve known for so long, that you’ve had children with,” she shared. “Me kind of breaking up the family – and it felt very much like I was driving that – so I had to deal with my almost sense of guilt that I was fracturing the family.”
She added that the journey wasn’t always smooth, despite the strong bond they now share. “There were days and moments where obviously things were not fine, were tense, we were unhappy and it’s sad,” she admitted.
The former couple, who married in 2003 and separated in 2012 before finalising their divorce in 2018, have long prioritised co-parenting – and their latest reunion shows just how far they’ve come.
