TV personality Davina McCall and her hairdresser partner, Michael Douglas, quietly got married in December 2025. The pair first met in the early 2000s while he was working on the set of Big Brother and she was presenting it, later getting together officially in 2019.

Davina and Michael publicly announced their engagement in September 2025, and three months later had a small ceremony in front of close friends and family near her home in Kent, while a service was reportedly held for a larger group of friends and family members on the following day.

However, Davina took the internet by storm when she showed off her unconventional wedding ring on social media for the first time, as it featured a rather unusual stone at its core.

Davina McCall shared a glimpse at her unusual engagement ring

At the centre of the ring, there appears to be a prosthetic eye, which the couple have stated is modelled after Michael’s eye, but the two explained a little more about it during a conversation with Geoff Lloyd on Virgin Radio UK.

She said: “What’s so nice for me is if I’m at work or I’m not with Michael and I catch sight of the ring, I feel like he’s with me,” while Michael continued: “They are actually made by a prosthetic eye company. They make eyes for people who need an eye and then they get put into rings.”

An expert take on Davina’s engagement ring

Brett Afshar, founder of bridal jewellery specialist Queensmith who holds the coveted DGA (Dist) gemmological qualification from London’s Gem-A, spoke exclusively to HELLO!, telling us Davina’s ring is a unique take on a classic high-fashion style, as well as a truly special gem that money can’t buy.

He said: “Davina’s ring is not only unique but also a deeply sentimental keepsake, created by a prosthetic eye company that transforms people’s eyes into rings. The ring appears to take inspiration from 1980s Schiaparelli jewellery, but with a far more pared-back design – aligning with the current jewellery trends that favour chunky, gold, statement rings.”

Schiaparelli jewellery frequently features eye-inspired designs

On the inspiration, he explained that “Schiaparelli’s designs are famously centred on the exaggerated human eye, often rendered in bold materials, vivid colours and sculptural forms that blur the line between jewellery and art.” The jewellery expert highlighted how the eye has been used as a symbol of “perception, insight, protection and the window to the soul” for centuries.

As a jeweller, Brett noted that he has “noticed a growing demand for custom engagement rings that incorporate meaningful personal details”. He continued: “While not everyone may want their partner’s eye immortalised in jewellery, these touches can take many forms, from engraved dates and initials to private nicknames, making each piece as personal as it is beautiful.”

For people who love the shape of the eye but are looking for a more traditional interpretation of the style, the jewellery expert recommends a “marquise diamond set east-to-west”.

When it came to valuing the ring exactly, Brett pointed out that the ring being a prosthetic eye as opposed to a stone would change things, adding: “The sentimental worth would probably outweigh any monetary figure! However, if the eye were removed, the solitaire setting alone would likely be valued at around £1.4k. Replacing the eye with a diamond of a similar size (approximately one carat) would bring the total to around £3k with a lab grown diamond, or closer to £6.5k with a natural diamond.”
