Days of Our Lives icon Deidre Hall proved she’s still got it when she made a rare appearance on social media in celebration of the US women’s and men’s hockey teams making it into the final at the Winter Olympics in Italy. The 78-year-old looked incredibly youthful in the clip as she switched from a beige turtleneck and patterned blue blazer to a Team USA jersey, with her silver hair worn in a neat shoulder-length cut.
She kept her accessories to a minimum with just a pair of pearl earrings and sported a soft pink lip. Fans took to the comment section to share the love, with one writing: “Cuuuuute…And the jersey is nice too,” while another added: “You look absolutely gorgeous!”
“Marlena never ages,” said another, while a fourth chimed in: “Still beautiful as ever.” Deidre is one of the best-known soap stars in the industry, having played Marlena Evans on DOOL since 1976, a role that earned her three Daytime Emmy nominations.
The star did take several breaks from the show over the years, including from 1987 to 1991, when she left to pursue other projects. She was also let go from DOOL in 2009 due to budget cuts, yet returned in 2011 and has achieved legend status since.
Aside from soap operas, Deidre has also starred in hits like Emergency!, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, Our House and Hacks, yet DOOL is her legacy in the industry.
“It’s a lifestyle, it’s a family, it’s a place to belong,” she told People of the soap opera. “I raised my children here, the best time with the best people.”
“Nothing’s been on television for 60 years? You must realize that,” she continued. “So I’ve said it before, but it’s a lot of people doing a lot of things right, and we’ve got good leadership. We’re a family show. We’re running and produced and run by a family, always have been, so it just makes sense that we would last 60 years.”
She added that the most important thing she had learned from her time on the show was to trust the writers completely, no matter how wacky the storyline. “They know best. They have their finger on the pulse of the audience all the time. They know what they’re ready for. They know what they’re not ready for,” she told the publication.
“When I was called upstairs at one point and told by Jim Riley that I was going to be possessed by the devil, I thought, ‘Oh, I don’t know. I don’t even know,'” she recalled.
“And he was a devout Catholic, deeply religious man who said, ‘We can do it.’ And, so I thought, ‘You’re in charge, you write it well enough and do it in an honorable way.’ And as you know, the audience went mad for it.”
DOOL saw Deidre through almost all of her marriages, as well as the birth of her children. She was first married to William Hudson from 1966 to 1970, then to Keith Barbour from 1972 to 1977, followed by singer Michael Dubelko from 1987 to 1989 and finally to producer Steve Sohmer from 1991 to 2006.
Deidre and Steve share sons David and Tully, who were born via surrogate.
