Demi Moore’s viral Milan Fashion Week bob was actually a wig

After breaking the internet at the Gucci show during Milan Fashion Week with a new short bob, Demi Moore has returned to her long locks. Despite writing a caption that seemed to hint at “new beginnings,” it looks like it really was a wig all along.

Moore spoke at a Kérastase event in Los Angeles on March 3, and her long, straight black hair was back.

While Moore was at the Actor Awards on Sunday after her viral moment, her hair was up in a bun, so it was hard to tell what was really happening.

Moore’s bob had fans going wild on the internet, with what seemed like more positive feedback than negative. There were some people sad to see it go, but hundreds and thousands of comments across various pages said she looked even younger with the haircut.

Her hairstylist, Dimitris Giannetos, later described the look as “bold” and “fashion-forward.” “It is inspired by the silhouettes of the new collection. I felt an amazing, short, above-the-shoulder bob with this very sleek wet texture would be perfect to complement her look,” he said in a press release. “It’s a big change for Demi — we’ve never seen her like this before! She looks very cool, effortless and modern. And it highlights her personality.”

It was hard to believe she really cut her hair because she has been so open about her attachment to it, but Moore later wrote in an Instagram gallery from the Gucci event, “A bold, beautiful new chapter begins!” signaling to many that it wasn’t a wig.

“The Substance” star has shared her appreciation of wigs in the past, saying her long hair “feels most like me.” “Being able to change my look with wigs and pieces feeds my need for change, but at the end of the day, I love taking it down, seeing my hair fall past my waist. It’s like coming home,” she told PEOPLE.

In 2025, she told Glamour her hair was also a way of challenging societal pressure that women need to cut their hair as they get older.

“[We often hear] that as women get older, they shouldn’t have long hair,” Moore told the outlet. “And for some reason, to me, I didn’t buy it. I didn’t believe it, and it didn’t make sense to me why that had to be the case,” she continued.

“And I did notice, particularly women who were going through menopause, that they were… I was looking around and seeing that they all were kind of cutting their hair in a very almost masculine way, just desexualizing themselves. And so I think there was a combination of this attachment to it, too. I don’t know. Sometimes I think I’ve just willed it,” Moore added.

While the public loved her short hair, for now, the long hair is here to stay.
