Diane von Fürstenberg (born Diane Simone Michele Halfin in Brussels, Belgium) is one of the most iconic fashion designers in history. During her time at university, she met Prince Egon von Fürstenberg, the elder son of Prince Tassilo zu Fürstenberg, a German Roman Catholic prince. The two married in 1969 and welcomed two children before their separation in 1972. Though Diane lost the title of “Her Serene Highness,” she was able to keep the last name. That name became known worldwide in the mid 1970s. DVF, as a fashion designer, best known for introducing the knitted jersey “wrap dress” in 1974, a piece of women’s clothing that became an overnight sensation. Dubbed “the most marketable woman since Coco Chanel” in 1976, DVF rose to the pinnacle of commercial and critical success. Though the line has experienced some financial troubles in the mid 2010s, DVF remais one of the most celebrated and beloved designers in fashion, with many celebrities wearing her clothing.
