Dick Van Dyke joined his wife, Arlene Silver, in celebrating their 14th wedding anniversary on Sunday with a sweet video shared with fans on social media. The couple, who first met backstage at the SAG Awards in 2006, sat up in bed together as they answered fan questions on Instagram Live and shared insight into their life together in the process.
“I have a very special guest today to celebrate a very special day. My husband is here!” Arlene began, before panning the camera over to Dick. “I’m not really shorter, I’m just lying down on the bed,” he quipped, before pointing at his wife and declaring: “Hi, she’s mine!”
The legendary actor, who celebrated his 100th birthday in December, then spoke about the moment he first saw Arlene when she was working as a makeup artist to the stars. “I was sitting in the green room where everybody waits to go on, and the place is full of actors and actresses,” Dick began.
“One thing about Hollywood actresses, they’re pretty heads on stick figures. So I know them in a minute. I was sitting there just by myself, all of a sudden I see this vision approaching me. No stick figure, gorgeous!”
“And I swear this, I never thought of getting up, I never thought of speaking – [but] I found myself standing on my feet saying, ‘Hi, I’m Dick,'” he recalled. “I don’t know what hit me, but I just did it. I invited her to sit down, we chatted a while, turns out she was a makeup gal, so I hired her on the spot.”
The loved-up couple added that they were celebrating their anniversary by watching the SAG Awards (now called the Actor Awards) together, in a homage to their first meeting.
Fans took to the comment section to share the love, with one writing: “Such a wonderful treat to see DVD with you today, Arlene! Happy Anniversary to you both!” while another added: “Happy anniversary to a perfect couple!”

“This brought me so much joy. I just LOVE your love. Happy anniversary to you two,” said another, while a fourth chimed in: “Happy anniversary, you crazy kids!”
Arlene, 54, previously shared her version of their meet cute with the Huffington Post in 2013, a year after they tied the knot. “I remember seeing Dick at the catering table with his bow tie and his big smile. Right when I sat down, he was sitting next to me. He said, ‘Hi, I’m Dick,'” she recalled.
“The first thing I asked him was, ‘Weren’t you in Mary Poppins?’ I wasn’t sure. I knew who he was, but I wasn’t sure why I knew who he was. I was not familiar with all his work. He has so much work I can’t believe I missed it.”
“We take very good care of each other,” she added. “But, I’m very aware that I have a national treasure on my hands…He’s the perfect human being, but he’s also the perfect partner.”
Dick has been married once before, to Margie Willett, the mother of his four children – Christina, Barry, Stacy and Carrie Beth. After they split in 1984, the Mary Poppins star shared a 35-year relationship with Michelle Triola, before she passed away in 2009.
