Did the Princess of Wales’ sister-in-law borrow an accessory from mother-in-law Carole Middleton for their day out?

While the Princess of Wales pulled out of Royal Ascot on Wednesday, members of the Middleton family were at Ascot Racecourse. Carole Middleton and her daughter-in-law Alizee Thevenet attended the second day of Royal Ascot 2025. 

The Princess’ 70-year-old mother looked lovely in a lace dress from ME+EM, identified by Remoulade Sauce, teamed with a blush-colored wide brim hat. Meanwhile, Alizee wore a checked dress and seemingly one of her mother-in-law’s accessories. One eagle-eyed social media user noticed that Alizee appeared to be wearing the hat, reportedly by Juliette Botterill, that Carole wore to her grandson Prince Louis‘ christening in 2018.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Alizee has borrowed something from her mother-in-law’s closet. For her wedding to James Middleton in 2021, Alizee wore Carole’s wedding dress.

“My something borrowed was in fact my dress from my mother-in-law Carole who last wore it 41 years ago on her wedding day in June, 1980,” the bride told HOLA!‘s sister brand HELLO!. “While talking about dresses with Carole and sharing ideas during lockdown for inspiration, I tried on her wedding dress and fell in love with it.”

Alizee added, “It fitted me perfectly and was exactly what I wanted. It always troubled me that wedding dresses are only worn once so it was amazing to give such a beautiful dress a second lease of life.”

James and his wife tied the knot on Sept. 11, 2021 in the French village of Bormes-les-Mimosas. The couple welcomed their first child, son Inigo, two years later in September of 2023.

Carole and Alizee made a sophisticated pair at Royal Ascot on Wednesday. The Middleton matriarch was pictured chatting with her son-in-law Prince William, as well as with King Charles. Carole and Alizee were also spotted with Prince Louis‘ godmother Lady Laura Meade and Lucy van Straubenzee, wife of Princess Charlotte’s godfather Thomas van Straubenzee.

The Princess of Wales was originally listed in the carriage procession for June 18, but pulled out of the event. Her Royal Highness is said to be “disappointed” to miss Royal Ascot, which she last attended in 2023, “but she has to find the right balance as she fully returns to public facing engagements,” per the MailOnline. Catherine, who completed chemotherapy treatment last year, was out earlier this week at the Order of the Garter service in Windsor and at Trooping the Colour on Saturday.
