Patrick J. Adams is revisiting his ‘Suits’ era with a mix of dry humor, nostalgia, and a few telling details about his longtime scene partner, Meghan Markle.
During an appearance on the ‘Not Skinny But Not Fat’ podcast with Amanda Hirsch, the 44-year-old actor reflected on where things stand today, revealing that although he and the Duchess of Sussex are “not really in touch,” she recently reached out with support when she heard about his upcoming Suits rewatch podcast with Sarah Rafferty. “Upon hearing about the podcast, I got a lovely text, saying how excited she was for us and asking how she could help in any way,” he said, adding that it was “so lovely to still have that kind of support and friendship after so many years apart.”
Adams didn’t shy away from acknowledging just how dramatically Markle’s life has changed since her time on the series. “What she’s gone through is insane,” he said, echoing Hirsch’s own comments about feeling protective of Meghan after posting about her on social media ahead of her project With Love, Meghan.
Their on-screen romance as Rachel Zane and Mike Ross made them one of Suits’ central couples from the show’s 2011 debut through season 7, with their characters ultimately tying the knot.
Off-screen, Markle’s real-life love story with Prince Harry began while she was still on the series, culminating in their May 2018 royal wedding, which Adams attended alongside other castmates. Since then, the couple stepped back from royal duties, relocated to California, and started a family.
But it’s the lighter, more playful memories that seem to stick most with Adams. He recalled a recurring dynamic between them on set that fans might not have seen onscreen. “I got a lot of eye rolls,” he said, “that was a constant with Meghan, just a lot of rolling her eyes at me, like, ‘Oh, my God, what are you doing?’”
That same energy, he joked, would likely carry over to the present if Markle ever checked his Instagram bio, which reads, “The other guy from that show that you’re watching on that app because that girl married that prince.”
Imagining her reaction, he said, “It’s the sort of thing that wherever Meghan is, if she’s ever read that, she’s going, ‘Patrick, give me a break’,” adding with a laugh that he’s “sure I got an eye roll.”
Despite the teasing, Adams also highlighted Markle’s more refined qualities, praising her “impeccable handwriting” and describing it as a “work of art.”
Hirsch even shared that she once received a handwritten note from Meghan after posting about her online, though she admitted, “I haven’t met her.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Adams joked about not receiving any products from Markle’s lifestyle brand. “I don’t have enough followers, I don’t think,” he said, prompting a playful back-and-forth with Hirsch about getting on the list.
