Drew Barrymore celebrated her birthday on February 22 and she shared a moving message with her audience members, while her crew set up for The Drew Barrymore Show.
She expressed: “It’s the 51st year of my life. I’m so excited. Life just gets better. Yes, physically, we decline a little bit along the way and that is challenging. I just don’t think it matches in any way to some of the calm, some of the lived experience.”
Drew’s advice
The actress provided further insight and revealed: “Attacking the negative voices in our head and saying, ‘I cannot live like this any longer. I won’t be here forever. How can I take away from my experience here on this planet, this pale blue dot, by being so cruel to myself?'”
Drew expressed: “This is no way to live. And I had no access to that type of brain function when I was younger. I just thought that’s what it took.”
She concluded: “Maybe you can, but with less negative self-talk. To know these things now, I don’t want to give them up for anything, and I just want to keep moving forward and keep growing and that never stops apparently.”
Birthday tributes
Her fans quickly flocked to the comments to cheer her on. One person wrote: “Happy Birthday to the realest, kindest, most caring, funniest, sweetest, most loving, beautiful you, Drew!”
A second follower added: “Thank you for being such a beautiful lighthouse to so many of us. You’re such a beautiful soul.”
A third person wrote: “Happy Birthday Drew!! You bring so much joy to all of us and are so relatable!! P.S. you’re aging backwards!!”
Her previous views on aging
Prior to her milestone 50th birthday last year, the star opened up about her refreshing take on aging and who inspired it.
She recalled: “Ellen Pompeo was on the show, and she described turning 50 as getting this superpower where you finally stop fretting and driving yourself crazy,” per AARP Magazine.
The TV star continued: “[My birthday] can’t come soon enough. I feel like Frodo [in The Lord of the Rings]: I see that brass ring and I’m so excited! I have no issues with aging—this is the happiest I’ve been in my life.”
Drew concluded: “My whole life I’ve been worried and stressed and, like, happy and having the best time ever. I would have never guessed that I would feel peace. This last decade has been the most [expletive] and furthering of my life, and it is finally bringing peace.”
