The Duchess of Edinburgh was a vision in burgundy during a recent royal engagement when she visited the United Nations General Assembly in New York for a meeting on the Status of Women.
The 61-year-old working royal jetted to America after visiting Italy with her husband, Prince Edward, 62, during the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games, where she wore a full Paralympic GB kit and wandered around the various villages spread across the northern part of the country.
In New York, she swapped puffer jackets and tracksuit bottoms for a more elegant look that radiated “heritage chic” with its muted tones and horsey accessories.
Pictured shaking hands with Annalena Baerbock, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, the senior royal shared the moment on her own official Instagram account, noting in the caption that the meeting focused on “the importance of advancing women’s rights and addressing the impact of conflict on women and girls around the world”.
Sophie decided on a dress and blazer combination for the prestigious outing and chose the velvet smart blazer in cabernet from Frame for her outer layer. The snug-fitting jacket featured gold buttons running down the length of its lapels.
Underneath her blazer, Sophie wore a Reiss belted knit pleated midi dress in raspberry red that featured a high neckline and long sleeves. The dress was cinched at her waist by a chunky brown leather belt with a gold buckle.
However, the star of the show was her gorgeous Gucci ‘Signora 85’ dark burgundy leather heeled pumps with the brand’s signature gold metal bar crossing her toes, which resembled a horse’s rein clips.
According to the Gucci website, the shoes retail at £803 and “reimagine the House’s heritage pump through a sleek square toe and chunky heel with a slim profile, adding a contemporary touch to the refined glamour of the La Famiglia collection”.
Finishing off her look for the UN visit, the mother-of-two carried her things in a Noble Macmillan London burgundy pouch and added dangling diamond earrings from Adore Jewels, spotted by the Royal Fashion Police Instagram account.
Flying the nest
Sophie’s American outing came after Ailsa Anderson, Queen Elizabeth’s former press secretary, revealed what the Duchess’s eldest daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, would be getting up to after she graduates from St Andrews University.
The 22-year-old young royal has been studying at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s former alma mater for the last four years and is currently finishing her fourth and final year there.
Speaking on HELLO!‘s Right Royal Podcast, the former press secretary said: “I think she’s very, very grounded. I love the fact that she takes after her grandfather in terms of carriage driving. It’s a real passion of hers. It’s a continuation of that amazing interest and hobby. She’ll be an interesting one to watch.”
