Dylan Efron may be known for his success in the latest season of ‘Traitors,’ but recently, he added “hero” to his resume. The fan-favorite reality star, who is known for keeping an active lifestyle and traveling around the world, detailed the moment he saved two women from drowning while spending time in South Beach, Miami.
During the latest episode of ‘Brooke & Connor Make a Podcast,’ the 33-year-old media personality, who is also Zac Efron’s younger brother, recounted a spontaneous rescue that took place during his first-ever visit to South Beach.
“It was really random,” Dylan said, laughing as he described the unexpected turn his beach day took. “I showed up to the beach,” he began. “And [I] walk up to the shore for the first time ever, and I’m looking out and it was just people screaming in the water.”
The commotion immediately caught his attention. The podcast co-host Connor Wood asked whether he suspected a shark was in the water, but Dylan clarified that it was powerful ocean currents creating dangerous conditions.
“The currents were ripping,” he explained, noting how the waves were wreaking havoc offshore. However, he acted quickly, “So, I just saw like five girls. Like their hands were up, screaming, there’s people on the shore with their hands up,” Dylan recalled.
With no lifeguards in sight, he and his friends—Brandon and The Traitors star Sam Asghari—were quick to help the two women. “Me and my buddy Brandon just looked at each other and we just sprinted out there,” he said. “There were two closest to us that already had a guy helping them in, and then there were three out further.”
Dylan took to the waves, swimming out to help pull the struggling swimmers back to safety. “So, I swam one in, swam back for another girl,” he continued, noting that the last person he rescued was visibly shaken.
He remembered “hugging this girl on shore,” reassuring her she was safe before quietly exiting the scene: “And then I just walked away.” The interviewer chimed in, “Even though you walked away, the press was still able to pick this up.”
Despite the attention, Dylan admitted he was surprised the story even made headlines. “First 10 seconds on this beach and there’s a rescue, like, Miami’s weird,” he said. “Then we just walked away like normal.”
