Tracey Ullman will return to our screens in Elsbeth for the second time, after starring in the second season as a professional psychic at the center of a murder investigation. The legendary comedienne and actress will guest star in an episode of season three, this time as a veteran gossip columnist.
“We wanted to celebrate the time-honored TV procedural tradition of bringing back former guest stars in entirely new roles – and who better than Tracey Ullman?” said Elsbeth‘s executive producer and showrunner, Jonathan Tolins, to TV Insider.
“She’s legendary for her ability to transform, and everyone at Elsbeth was thrilled she was willing to come play with us again.” Tracey’s first role on the show was that of the psychic Marilyn Gladwell, whom Elsbeth (played by Carrie Preston) suspected was involved in the murder of her client’s stepson.
Despite Elsbeth being a non-believer in all things supernatural, Marilyn was able to “channel” her grandmother and shake the attorney’s steadfast beliefs.
“I always love the opportunity to show a deeper, more vulnerable side to Elsbeth because she’s always so mentally forward,” Carrie told Entertainment Weekly. “I think she feels everything. She’s very practised in being able to move through those emotions with action, and she’s obsessed with her work. It really does fuel her.”
“Elsbeth thinks she knows everything, but she doesn’t sometimes, and she’s willing to accept that here,” she continued.
“Somebody who comes at things from an evidence-based perspective now has to accept some things can’t be explained, and that’s okay too. It doesn’t deter her from finding the evidence she needs to put this woman away for the crime she committed.”

Carrie also admitted that she was a huge fan of the veteran star and loved getting to work with her on the show. “Tracey Ullman holds a lot of emotional weight for me as a fan and as an admirer of her work,” she told the outlet.
Season three, which will return to our screens on April 2 after a short break, will see Tracey take on the role of Betty Heymouth, a fierce gossip columnist.
The 66-year-old is best known for her award-winning comedy series, The Tracey Ullman Show, which aired from 1987 to 1990. Thanks to the show, she won a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and several American Comedy Awards. The series itself won a total of 10 Emmy Awards and made Tracey into a comedy legend.
Elsbeth has been renewed for a fourth season, which will likely air in late 2026 or early 2027. Carrie shared a glimpse into the season three wrap party in March, with the cast and crew getting together to celebrate their achievements so far.
“That’s a wrap on filming season 3 of #Elsbeth! SO much love and appreciation for this absolutely incredible cast and crew,” she wrote in the Instagram caption.
