Emily Blunt is living up to her last name as the actress put it bluntly while speaking about the buzz surrounding “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” The 42-year-old star, who is juggling red carpets, movie sets, and a tidal wave of fan attention, opened up about filming the show while paparazzi and fans captured almost every minute of the film.
Blunt, who first stole scenes as the razor-sharp Emily Charlton in the 2006 hit, is back alongside Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. This time, though, her character isn’t just the frazzled assistant running on caffeine and cubes of cheese. She’s leveled up. The sequel will reportedly pit Miranda Priestly, still ruling Runway with an iron fist, against Emily, who has carved her own path as an executive at a luxury advertising firm.
But when pressed for details, Blunt kept her lips sealed. “I can tell you nothing,” she teased in an interview at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). She admitted the constant media presence on set has been hard to ignore: “We feel a little bit like zoo exhibits. But that’s OK. People are excited.”
A Double Life On Screen
While fashion fans are eagerly waiting to see Emily back in stilettos, Blunt is also flexing her dramatic chops in “The Smashing Machine.” Directed by Benny Safdie, the film dives into the turbulent life of MMA fighter Mark Kerr, played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Blunt portrays Kerr’s then-wife, Dawn Staples, a role rooted in real life.
For Blunt, the experience was both challenging and rewarding. “It’s an intimate story of their relationship and all the nooks and crannies and flaws and all,” she said, crediting Staples for her generosity in sharing personal details. “It was so beautiful to get to play someone who I truly could absorb.”
What excites her most is the variety of balancing Emily Charlton’s couture world with a gritty biopic about combat sports. “It’s wonderful, the variety—it’s so exciting,” she said. “They couldn’t be more different.”
Family, Fame, and Finding Balance
Off-screen, Blunt is busy raising her daughters, Hazel, 11, and Violet, 9, with husband John Krasinski. The family recently relocated back to London, and Blunt has spoken before about making deliberate choices to balance career and motherhood. With two massive projects premiering in the next two years, she’s clearly hitting her stride.
Prada 2 Hype
The expectation around “The Devil Wears Prada 2” has been wild. Fans have been dissecting every paparazzi shot from set, speculating on where Andy (Anne Hathaway) and Miranda (Meryl Streep) fit into the story. For Blunt, it’s a surreal return to a role that defined an era of early-2000s cinema.
Last year, she even joked about Emily Charlton’s eating habits evolving since the first film: “I just hope she’s eating a nice French dip sandwich somewhere and she’s just happy. Not a cube of cheese.”
With Prada power plays on one side and intimate biopic storytelling on the other, Emily Blunt is showcasing why she’s one of Hollywood’s most versatile and beloved actors.
