The hit period drama, Miss Scarlet, is coming to an end. The detective series, which stars Kate Phillips (Wolf Hall, Peaky Blinders) as Victorian sleuth Eliza Scarlet, will conclude with its seventh season.
The story follows the titular investigator, who takes over her father’s detective agency to solve puzzling mysteries across London. In the early seasons, she teamed up with childhood friend, Scotland Yard detective William ‘The Duke’ Wellington (Stuart Martin), who left the show after season four.
From season five, Eliza was joined by police inspector and romantic interest Alexander Blake (Tom Durant-Pritchard).
Since it first premiered in 2020, the drama has amassed a legion of dedicated fans, who will undoubtedly be devastated over the news of its ending.
The series not only boasts an impressive Rotten Tomatoes rating of 88 per cent, but has been hailed as “exceptional” and a “must-watch” by viewers. It’s become a very popular and enduring entry in the period crime drama genre, loved for its stylish and moody portrayal of Victorian London, the slow-burn romance between its two leads and its twisty mysteries.

What to expect from season seven
The final season will consist of six new episodes, which will wrap up the story of Victorian London’s “first female private detective”.
In season seven, Eliza has found love, but it comes with a fresh set of both professional and personal challenges.
The synopsis continues: “As she faces mounting pressures both at work and at home, she is reunited with familiar friendly faces, as well as a powerful new crime boss who has arrived in town – and it’s not who you might expect. Meanwhile, Blake’s promotion brings its own complications, as he finds himself answering to a surprising new boss with whom he shares a complicated history.”
The new season promises to raise the stakes, deepen the drama and bring the story to a “thrilling and satisfying close”.
Leading star Kate described the drama as “one of the greatest joys of my career”. She said in a statement: “I will forever be grateful to Rachael New for creating such a witty, sharp, and delightful character in Eliza.
“It’s been a privilege to work on a show crafted with so much love and dedication and as we prepare to say goodbye, I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved and the memories we’ve made,” the actress continued. “Thank you to everyone who has supported us — I can’t wait to share the farewell Miss Scarlet deserves.”
Who will star in season 7?
Kate Phillips and Tom Durant-Pritchard will reprise their starring roles in the new season. They’ll be joined by returning cast members Paul Bazely, Tim Chipping, Evan McCabe, Felix Scott, Cordelia Bugeja and Ansu Kabia in season 7.
Miss Scarlet series six begins airing on Tuesday 24 March at 9pm on U&Alibi in 2026.
